  1. I don't think they trade Nylander for cap purposes. Leafs still need to replace his scoring. I could see a situation where the team trades him for a player like Reinhart or Guentzel

  2. Nylander couldn't hold Aho jock. Aho is a center which is a premium and he's a great 2 way player. nylander not so much

  3. Hey Andrew, I've been thinking that this is where things will ultimately end up for a while. Klingberg and Kampf deals basically ensured that Willy is gone.

  4. A more balanced lineup if you have Bertuzzi, Marner, Domi and Tavares as your top four wingers on the top two lines. Trade Nylander for Lindholm at center and you have two really solid lines where any or all can score 25 to 30 goals. Knives and jarkrok with Kamp is a good third line as well. Calgary should sweeten deal with Tanev on the back end as well.

  5. It's always difficult to hear about these situations. I'd love to see Nylander,Matthews, and Marner continue as Leafs for life(I know I'm terrible for saying that's my opinion) Unfortunately the other side of this conversation always seems to go that these three won't take less to win. They only care about who's making the most on this team and comparing themselves to that guy. While we as fans try to compare them to the entire league!

  6. A better contract to look at would be Mathew Tkachuks. At the time of signing his contract was worth 11.52% of the cap. That was coming off a 104 point season where he also placed 27th in selke voting. With that being said, Nylanders contract coming in at anything more then 10.5% of the cap, would be an overpayment.

The same goes for Mitch Marner when he comes to sign his next contract. He should not receive a penny over whatever 11.52% of the cap is at the time.

  7. Come on guys we haven't won a thing with core 4..that's enough..trade him..lower cap get a good defense man..

  8. Trading Nylander will not be easy. First, the team that wants him have to know what he will extend for, and how far down from 10M ask will he go. Second, he has a modified no trade clause now, so any bottom feeder teams with cap space are likely on his "no way I'm going there" list. What he really wants is to play the year out, so he can get to free agency next summer to get his 10M from someone. All about money.. think he cares if he's a constant distraction next season? His Dad and Agent are the real villains, but he'll be taking the heat. If they can trade him, try to do it asap, get him out of here.

  9. Would the fan base be able to raise money to help sign a player? (The fan base could pay Nylander $2 Million a year to sign a 7 or 8 million contract with the Leafs).

  10. Lil willy really gona leave hes boys in TO over a million bucks. When he comes from a wealthy family and has made over 45mil himself. Oh well this team needs ppl that want to be here 🙂

  11. This trade has the potential to make or break the Brad Treliving Maple Leafs if they pull the trigger on a trade of this magnitude, the return could be huge to the right team.
    – 82GP 40G 47A 87PTS
    – Guaranteed $6.9M contract 2023-24
    – Wants long-term for 2024-25 @~10-11Mil

Might be a floater, might not play in the dirty areas, probably not going to take a hit to make a play, avoids physicality…but there is a good chance he stays healthy through a playoff as the silver lining.

It could end up addressing many of the issues the Leafs have had and give them a true stud shutdown defensemen and a lesser than Nylander top 6 replacement on the right side and some other assets.

The inverse, it could go pear shaped and the assets not pan out and Nylander becomes another teams #1 star player after playing 3rd fiddle for so many years in the shadows of Matthews and Marner.

What does Nylander look like without Tavares and Matthews centering him? I guess it depends on his possible future line mates.

  12. Just to iterate, Nylander did not outperform Matthews this season….Same amount of goals 8 less games played 2 less points, also Matthews lead the league in blocked shots by forwards. Harder minutes and harder matchups and better g/60 by far. Also Nylander has not and is not better than Matthews in the playoffs the stats this year were basically the same, the difference being, Nylander played the best year of his life, Matthews had an average to maybe below average year for himself. stop making the comparison please this is the reason why he thinks he's worth as much as 2 way 40 goal forwards, inflated ego. hes at most an 8..8×8 player i can stretch that to 9 if you can convince Matthews to take 12.5-13.

  13. Nylander had a career year he'll maybe reproduce once or twice in the next 8 years, he'll be meh in three years and you want to make the same mistake they've make with Rielly but at 8.5

When do Leafs fan stop being homers. Nylander had a great season. Why give a guy that will regress 8 years?

And WIlly wants to exploit his prime, he's desperate for 8 year term.

  14. Need to trade now . Start new year with the team you want to go with. It makes more sense to do it this way. Nylander for lindholm and maybe zadorov

  15. Stop using points to benchmark how good a player is. Barzal is also a better player than Nylander and he signed for less. Everyone will use POINTs to compare. Why? I have no idea. There are way more intangibles to look at. You are also comparing apples to oranges. Carolina is a defensive tream. Guaranteed Nylander will score 20% less and be a defensive liability if he played on the Hurricanes.

  16. Are Toronto a quality organization like Carolina, if I take a team friendly deal will you try and get me to end my career if I have a bad year

  17. For Willy, 8.8-9.5 but that should be the max, but let’s get off the ass and get it done. The production could be with others in the same position.

  18. It's really quite simple. If you are the Leafs specifically. Would you take Aho or Nylander ? For me it's obvious; Aho . A center , better two way player and he would give Leafs an a awesome 1-2 centers. It would allow Taveras to go to left wing.

  19. Aho wants 12 million to play for Toronto he's better then your number 1 center….he has a No Trade Clause, which allows him to give only 1 team the sweetheart deal…Carolina

  20. When P.Beregon contract was up is agent was looking for 8.5×8 he said no to that it's 6,5×8 that's a true Profesional team comes first, in is prime i take Bergeron any day of the week over Nylander

  21. Which free agents got paid more this year lol. Bertuzzi was asking 8m that is why we got him for 5.5. Teams have no room for a player that wants 10 m and does not play defense and has no physical edge. Tarasenko wanted 7 to 8 what did he get 5 , Domi wanted 5 to 6 what did he get 3? Which team exactly will pay Nylander 10 to 11 m? The only players who got overpaid this year as UFA were gritty defense and forwards.

  22. Trade Nylander. Do it soon. He may be a nice guy but in a cap system you cannot pay everyone top dollar. Over 10 million per season for a one way player is just dumb. Get a good defenceman a really good prospect and a first if you can.

  23. Nylander is not reasonable when it comes to contract negotiations. One year with 49 goals does not make you comparable to Aho. If Leafs stick to logis, rational and reason they are going to lose him. So be it he is the biggest pansy one dimensional player.

  24. Nylander ain't worth it trade him…….Get a top d man a top winger and a first round pick…..lol…sounds like you do think he's worth it

  25. No might about it. A zero defensive winger who doesn't play pk or pp1 who wants as much as Marner who people forget plays 1st line Rw, better hockey iq and plays every pk and pp1 for the leafs. Get rid of Nylander and bring in a tough rw player and a defenceman

  26. Why they "might" need to trade Nylander?? you mean why the Leafs will have to trade one of the four or just watch as one of them at minimum walk away….. This cap conundrum should have been blatantly obvious since the moment Tavares put pen to paper – yet the Leafs won nothing… It's hard not to troll the Leafs – had you won a Cup, would it have been worth it? sure, but you didn't and now you're encroaching onto "cap hell"…. It will be more like Auston Matthews will walk away from the Leafs as a UFA and sign with a young up and coming team – like the Blackhawks, Ducks or Coyotes… The Leafs are in a terrible position right now and it's all because they "needed" so sign Tavares to prove to the fans that they're "serious" about winning – when the Leafs haven't won anything!… If I was a Leaf fan I'd be pissed because objectively these guys aren't going to want to sit around and play in Toronto when it's obvious a rebuild is right around the corner… So yea, Nylander is the least of the Leafs troubles right now…… And look, I know I'm harsh – but it's the truth – it's NOT Nylander it's the flipping franchise in general – the window is about closed – you either win a Cup in 2024 or Nylander is the least of your problems…. And the craziest part is that Toronto will contend, then choke in the playoffs and Matthews will walk and then the rest will demand trades….

That's what you get for poaching Tavares – and he was dumb enough to go with it… smh.. If he really wanted to play for the Leafs then why didn't he take a deal that wouldn't destroy the Leafs future cap situation?….. Why didn't he pull an Andre Dawson and signed a blank contract?? right….

    smh…

  27. So cute to see all the little Loser Leafs lovers with their dreams and delusions for the team who will make it 57 years with no Cup in 2024.

  28. People keep hating on Klingberg but they'll realize once the season starts why the Leafs signed him. Puck moving defenceman, can ride the line well, great shot. The Leafs haven't had a hard shot from the blueline in years. His defence was horrible because he played on the Ducks for most of last year LOL. He was solid in Minnesota.
