Your analysis is correct. There was a run on goalies in the 2nd round with the top 3 goalies (Hrabal, Gajan, and Trey Augustine) being selected within the first nine picks (#33 – #41) in the 2nd round and two more goalies selected later in the 2nd round. The Blackhawks were prescient in realizing this and decided to use their #35 pick to jump to the head of the line and select the goalie of their choosing. One could debate whether the top goalie was Michael Hrabal or Adam Gajan and this is where they relied upon their excellent European scouting. Gajan's athleticism and competitiveness give him a higher ceiling.
