Am I the only one who thinks Michkov will be far and away the best player from this draft?

I feel like so many teams were scared to draft him just because he’s tied up for a few years in the khl, which is one of the dumbest reasons to pass on a guy like this. He’ll be nhl ready by then and that’s how long you’d have to wait on half of these first round guys anyway.

You mean the fact that he essentially told every other team other than the Flyers that he doesn’t want to play for them?

  2. EyeHeartBidets

No, I assume he will end up the second best player in the draft

I think if he was the second best player in the draft, then people who know far more about hockey than me, and whose jobs are on the line over decisions like this would probably have picked him higher.

Sometimes teams get it wrong. I’d be shocked if that many teams got such a high profile decisions wrong though.

Wdym it is going to be bedard carlsson or fantilli

  5. ubcthrowaway-01

You never know. Players like Pavelski taken in round 7 ended up being better than half the first rounders in his draft, meanwhile first overall in 2020 looks like a guy no one would take in top 10 so it’s too early to say anything

he’s going to stay in Russia more than likely

  7. He will be “far and away” better than Bedard? No way. Could be a rivalry like Crosby vs. ovechkin but I doubt he will be far and away better.

Given the Flyers history with Russian players, I’ll be surprised if he ever leaves Europe

  9. shouldbeworking10

Bedard will likely be better but I could see Michelob being the second best

I feel like he could be the second best. The whole list of teams he’d sign with and I think there were some attitude concerns. Plus, the teams ahead of the flyer are probably looking to improve next year, and the flyer is still on a downwards projection. Gms are trying to keep their jobs.

Far and away? No. He should be pretty good though

  12. Cleets11

No, his potential is around a drai, Kuch level. Bedard is more likely a Crosby or McDavid.

it’s not a dumb reason if you look at the history of khl players . he’s gonna be good .

This is exactly the kind of content you expect from r/NHL.

I don’t believe so, the flyers development team isn’t exactly the most outstanding and I feel he will not be able to thrive under terrible team conditions.

Boy is too small. He’ll get mauled by real men in the NHL

  17. ViolinistMean199

It’s too early to tell but usually Russians that are signed in the KHL at the time of draft fall below where they would normally get taken if not signed to the KHL.

He also wouldn’t play for anyone but like 5 teams. So if the teams the drafted before him weren’t on the list they made the right choice

In Motha Russia , contract sign you!

Don’t think he’ll be the best player in the draft considering Bedard, and possibly Fantilli. I do think he’ll be the best player not selected 1-3, and that teams will regret skipping him, especially since his arrival in NA could work with some of the timelines of franchises currently rebuilding. Teams picking that high in the draft generally need more than just one needle moving draft pick to get back into contention.

I disagree, as Trey Augustine has been dominant for the USNTDP, and won a gold in the U18 world juniors, and even played superbly in the U20 world juniors. He has also been praised immensely by John Vanbiesbrouck.
