The Nashville Predators have wrapped up their season just missing out on the playoffs after a wild 2022-2023. Today we take a closer look at the performances of Roman Josi and Colton Sissons. Josi’s season and statistics were affected by his late injury, but what other factors played a part in his drop off from last season’s production? Oh there's no doubt that Josi creates a lot of offence, the question is, which team gets more of it! In the 2011-12 season, the Preds shut-down pair was Shea Weber and (I hate to say it but) Ryan Suter, and the Predators were third in the league for fewest goals allowed. When Mattias Ekholm and P.K. Subban were the shut-down pair, in the 2017-18 season we were second for fewest goals allowed and in 2018-19 we were third again. Then in 2020-21 a turning point in the season for us was when Josi was injured and Ekholm and Carrier became the shut-down pair, and, to his credit, Hynes kept it that way until this season, and our defense got a lot better. Our defensive numbers have NEVER been good when Josi has been part of our shut-down pair no matter who he was playing with.
Colton Sissons is one of my favorite players, such a complete guy! And Sissons scored the biggest goal in Predators history, the Western Conference winning goal and, oh buy the way, completed a hat-trick!
