  1. Was talking about this the other day… imagine this guy didn't get drafted into a lockout year, play in a shortened lockout season, play in 2 covid shortened season… he could've easily hit the 900 goal mark. Honestly what a stud.

  2. I'm so happy for him that he managed to get the Stanley Cup, now all he needs in his career is a gold olympic medal to join the triple gold club.

  3. He’s a better goal scorer than Gretzky. If it weren’t for the lockouts he’d prolly be Top Dawg.

  4. As a Pens fan, I felt obliged to mention that we should call him Mister Ovechkin.

    👊👏🐧

  5. Reasons I don’t think Ovie will pass Gretzky:

2004/5 lockout year was supposed to be his first year in the league (82 games gone)
    2012/13 lockout erased 34 games.
    Covid erased 49 games
That’s the equivalent of 2 full seasons gone. It’ll be tough to overcome that imho.

  6. As a Flyers fan, I give this man actual props unlike his supposed rival Symone Crybaby.

  7. 12 in his first 14 games so far this season. If he gets 50 this season it takes him to 780. He will then need 28.5 goals per season over the last 4 years of his contract to tie Gretzky at 894 goals.

  8. From 1977 to 1989, spanning the entire time that Bossy and Gretzky piled up 50 goals or more in a season, there were 82 such seasons from players.

Since Ovie came into the league there have been 26 and he has 9 of them. That is 35 percent of all of them.

  9. Was looking at Selanne’s stats for his age 38-40 seasons.

    Age 38 – 27 goals in 65 games (16 PP)
    Age 39 – 27 goals in 54 games (14 PP)
    Age 40 – 31 goals in 73 games (16 PP)

That’s a total of 85 goals with a goals per game pace of 0.44. (54% of his goals on the PP)

If Ovechkin hits 35 goals this season and matches the 85 goals of Selanne over the last 3 years of his contract then he finishes with an even 900 goals.
