He took 2 team friendly bridge contracts & then the market dictated what he was worth just before the pandemic caused a flat cap. That’s what burned us. Is he worth 9+. Probably not. But he is our No. 1D & ya Ekholm is gonna help with some tough mins. I think he’ll play well this year.
I don't know, I never play fantasy hockey, but my work had us all in it once and honestly, I had mcdavid and nurse on my team, and nurse was my most consistent d-man…only guy on my team I never traded, and ya, I gave up mcdavid for kadri when ge won it with the avs once my team ended up like the oilers 😛
He had a decent year on offence just not a defender like ekholm. Oilers should trade him as they have the generational talent mcdavid

Nurse fought for that contract. So it is both on him and the Oilers. He wanted a big payoff and The Oilers didn't want to lose him. Klefbom was constantly injured so The Oilers couldn't afford to let Nurse walk. It's not like The Oilers just came up with $9 mil as their first offer. I still blame The Oilers more, but it's not ONLY on them

I think skinner can be fine but man there depth isn’t good up front and there D is bad that’s why they keep losing but that’s just me 2 guys can’t carry a team

I disagree that he not accountable for accepting more pay than he can play up to. Many players go for team friendly counteracts. Nurse could have/should have left more for the team so that other players could support him and help him play better, win, and enjoy a better legacy. For a a few million that no person actually needs, he jeopardizes his team’s future and his legacy, which is worth more that $. Hi think he should actually, seriously give back millions so that the team can procure other better players
we can't blame players for the amount of money they make but you know if you're making a certain amount fans will expect huge things from you. nowadays fans will be mad at whatever you sign though as well

I don't pay for NHL games, so I don't care about what players get paid, but I agree with almost every comment knocking nurse. If you're one of the highest paid defencemen in the league, then you have to show the return on the ice and if you don't, well, you're going to hear about it. Don't act like there should be no expectations.

If Nurse did a 6M x 8 yrs. Close to no one except the biggest whiners, would have anything to say. Yes he is overpaid, but he is a solid D-Man. Boneified top four for sure. He's gritty, plays hard, can take a check, and give one. Skates well enough, all around solid 18-22 mins a night guy. If we can find another Ekholm at the trade deadline for top pairing mins, Soups and Skinner can play stand up, league avg. tending we win a cup.

I disagree that Darnell is a number 3. He’s a number one on many teams. Is he a superstar number one? No, but he’s still a low end one or high end 2 on most teams.

Looking in from afar, I see a player who is getting pounded and running short of fuel. I watch a lot of Oilers games and am not impressed by Nurse's play. He freaking needs some help. You are more than right saying he is a #3 skill wise. It has been long enough for him to either improve or not. He has or not. I know #1 D men don't pop up every day but this is a long playing soap opera.

The only reason Nurse got that big of a contract was because of the inflated value of both Seth Jones and Dougie Hamilton's contracts respectively. Makar was the only D-man to sign that summer who was worth the $9M.
Without Jones and Hamilton screwing everything up, Nurse would've come in around $7.5M and everyone would've still complained about him just as much. They still would've called that an overpayment. But hey, it still wouldn't be the $2M+ overpayment that currently exists

Nurse was never going to live up to that contract, signing it was his death knell. He's a decent dman, but like you said NOT a #1 or worth the price tag.
Nurse makes more money than Cale Makar, Alex Pietrangelo, John Carlson, Victor Hedman and Mikhail Sergachev. Those men have 10 Stanley Cups between them. Give Nurse a 5.75M x 8 and he'd be paid fairly. Top tier money demands top tier production.
