So far in the past dozen drafts, only five players the Red Wings took after the first round have made an impact in the league – Andreas Athanasiou (110th in 2012), Tyler Bertuzzi (58th in 2013), Mattias Janmark-Nylen (79th in 2013), Filip Hronek (53rd in 2017) and Jonatan Berggren (33rd in 2018). Only Berggren remains in the organization.

Big shutdown defensemen are typically a poor draft choice. They are often cheap in free agency and do not often pan out the way you hope. Its an L in the Draper draft department. Ask 2017 how their draft went.

We have an insanely deep prospect pool. It goes without saying, but our future is bright. I remember when we had absolutely nothing to look forward to in terms of defensive prospects. Now we’re in abundance of them.

I feel like this subreddit has become even more hostile to opposing views in the last couple months. It’s okay to question the moves this organization makes sometimes, especially when those moves include drafting a guy who hasn’t scored a goal since high school. I fully believe that Detroit knows something we don’t, but for now that means we’re operating on faith which is completely fair to challenge on a *discussion* forum.
