Looking Back on the Skinner Trade 5 years Later

How are we feeling after this return?

Skinner could’ve been that top 6 forward we needed the past few years. At the time though, I completely understand the trade. Buffalo got fleeced on his extension.

Skinner could have had everything here. I’ve never seen a young player come into the organization and be beloved by the fans so quickly. It wasn’t long after his first game that the arena was filled with Skinner jerseys. Considering he kinda fell off after the trade, I’m not so much upset about the trade from a performance perspective, but man I do miss the hype around that rookie season. Feels like Aho is now what Skinner could have/should have been.

Maybe the return hasn’t panned out for us so far but I feel we needed to make that trade to start the new regime under Rod

The return is definitely a win for us especially knowing what Buffalo paid Skinner for the extension.

That said I feel bad for Skinner for how he’s been jerked around the last few years and hope that he gets to taste the playoffs this year (followed by a quick first round exit because I hate the Sabres)

Exciting player but there’s a reason he’s never been in the playoffs. My definitive memory of him will be scoring a goal against us but later in the game completely losing Faulk and letting him go in for a canes gwg lol

What did we end up moving that 6th rounder for? But strange including a player we didn’t draft as part of our return in the Skinner trade

I still really want to see Nikishin in the big leagues and see how well he does with us. Pytor is starting to worry me he may never be more than average.
