The thing with Podkolizin that needs to be taken into account is that he’s not really been set up for success in North America. At the NHL level, he’s had 3 different coaches already, and he hasn’t even played 3 seasons. Plus, at the AHL, he’s had a different coach. Those are 4 different head coaches since he came to North America.

I’ve seen a lot of comments about how Podkolzin and Klimovich have been training together this summer and apparently just working their asses off. Like almost borderline overtraining.
Even with some early career stumbles, the level of drive and the overall toolkit that Pods has makes me feel confident he’s gonna carve himself out a strong career as a middle six power forward that you’ll need come playoff time. Same with Klim. Who knows, maybe they’ll be linemates one day?

I know people didn’t really like the idea of a team reporter when it was first announced, but she has put out some great pieces on Blueger, the video coaching staff and now Podz in less than a month. This is the type of more personal content we haven’t gotten in a while.

Podkolzin has a good attitude, which is already the first step to becoming a better player. The main issue is finding him top 6 ice time so that he can develop his offensive game. You need to do that by playing alongside Pettersson, Kuzmenko, or Miller. If he is still playing on the 3rd line, his game won’t develop because he’ll get defensive zone starts and PK duties. Being well rounded is one thing, but his main challenge is proving he is one of the top 6 players on this team and getting consistent ice time in the offensive zone. Of course, he can only do that when he’s actually putting up points.
