Not sure miss managed is the right word. Circumstances dictate players to assume different roles on the club something laffy never had to do before. He will be fine, it actually puts an interesting wrinkle in his potential career story. Basically character building in the long run. It is something that will potentially help him overall. He is 21 years old his best is yet to come and his ceiling is higher than anybody on the team right now and I don’t think it’s close. Building the best team requires a certain mentality, which isn’t always found in the best player in the league. If that is all you would need, then the Edmonton Oilers should never lose a cup. They have two of them.
I agree with everything you're saying BUT I have to point out that his conditioning is a factor. When he comes off the ice, he looks gassed, and I can't just attribute that to his effort. I would love to see his VO2 scores. Like you said, his skating isn't his strong suit, I think it's sometimes labored. This is what I want to see improved over the summer.
