Rangers trade for Andrew Copp, Tyler Motte and Justin Braun in an outstanding Trade Deadline Day!!

As is tradition on NHL Trade Deadline Day, we’re reacting in real time to everything that happens in the final hours leading up to the trade deadline! The Rangers strike at the zero hour to bring in Andrew Copp and Tyler Motte from the Jets and Canucks, respectively, and add some much-needed depth, secondary scoring, and versatility at forward! Trying to make sense out of the trade for Justin Braun, who seems like a bit of an odd fit and arguably should not be playing over Braden Schneider. Giving kudos to Chris Drury, who made this team better without giving up significant assets or overpaying for anyone. Trying to figure out the new line combinations for tomorrow’s game against the Devils! Plus, Anthony Bitetto heads to the Sharks in exchange for former first-round pick Nick Merkley. Episode 561. Intro song is “Leave the Lights On” by Passafire. Episode 561.

  1. I think you missed the point on Braun. Braun is going to be Nemeth with more skill, if anything, Schneids will have to move to LD. Braun may also go in to spot Miller a few games here and there.. I think you are WAY overvalueing Miller. Miller is a turnover machine. I've been waiting for Rangers to get a guy who's better and able to take the body. I don;t say Braun will be longterm replacement. Rangers D showed their inexperience the last 2 games, they were overwhelmed by TB and Carolina, and without the goaltending, they get whooped. In Playoffs, you need experience.

  2. Finally have a guy who can win draws in Copp. I'd play him at center and move Chytil to wing.

  3. Expecting a 20 year old Schneider to just be ok in playoffs is asking a lot. Braun has over 100 playoffs games under his belt. Also Schneiders play has dropped a little last few games. Teams starting to figure him out. It’s a good depth signing. Would u have preferred hajek and jones as our only dman reserves? And getting Braun didn’t mean they weren’t looking at other trades lol. I think they can do more than one thing at once.

  4. Trade Schneider or kandre? Lmao what. All your reasonings for us getting Braun were just wildly inaccurate

  5. Thank you, Tyler Motte. Heart and soul player who delivered in clutch moments, like the 2020 bubble playoffs.

Solid player, better person. Did great things for the mental health community. That's the type of person you want representing your franchise.

As for Motte, he was true to his word and work ethic in advance of the trade deadline.

“I’ve always been a skater, worked hard and added some offence as the years have gone on,” he said. “I’m reliable and love to kill penalties. I try to show up every night to help the team win and sometimes it’s blocking a shot or potting a goal. It’s the same mindset every night. It’s business as usual.”

    12:15 p.m. That’s it

Or so the word is. The Canucks didn’t do much in the end. They’ve still got all their top players. Lots of decisions to be made still.

11:55 a.m. Motte off to Big Apple

Tyler Motte is off to the New York Rangers.

The 2023 draft, by the way, is considered to be much deeper than the 2022 draft.

Sounds like Canucks were trying to sign Motte to an extension but obviously couldn’t work anything out.

11:30 a.m. Is it worth it?

Great stat here from the Canadian Press’ Josh Clipperton:

We can see these moves almost never pay off immediately, I would be interested to see the stats about whether these moves make a difference a season later.
