  1. Babcock"says" he changed and grew, blah blah, like you said, let's see what happens when Columbus is on a five game losing streak.

  2. I agree 100%, Laine and Gaudreau absolutely do not fit with someone with Mike Babcock's coaching style. I don't think the Blue Jacket's upcoming prospects are gonna like him either. From what I've seen of him in Toronto, Babcock is horrible with young players (see the Marner story) and veterans on the tail end of their career (like Spezza). He could totally be a serviceable NHL coach, just not on a team like this.

  3. I honestly didnt think Babcock would coach in the NHL again.. should be intersting to say the least

  4. it's only a 2 year contract so if it doesn't work out than oh well, at least it's not 8 years like the leaf's gave him.

  5. I have no idea why this guy has a job in the NHL again. I'm all for second chances, but this guy was an absolute scumbag, and it's not like he had the success to back up his shitty actions. Literally could have picked any drunk rando in the arena to stand behind the bench in the 2000s and the Wings would have won a cup. If anything, Babcock probably held them back from being more successful.

  6. Johnny Gaudreau is one of three hockey players in the history of the sport that I actively dislike. I wish him nothing but the worst going forward. Not even a Calgary fan, just hate what he did to that franchise. #13 deserves it and it looks great on him.

  7. So this is not supposed to be any comment on pros and cons, but for quite a few players like Gaudreau, I have a sneaking suspicion it's a shame that the Bruins didn't end up winning the cup. The league would look a lot different if teams sought to emulate Montgomery instead of VGK's cutthroat attitude.

  8. Johnny is a very talented player but he is one of the softest in the entire league. He avoids the hard areas both on and off the ice

  9. Babs didn’t take ownership and/or make amends with the players. That would have gone a long ways.

  10. There's 2 questions of equal importance for the CBJ : 1) Why HIM of all people ? 2) Why the freak NOW ?!?
None of it makes sense, they have the most amazing, most complete and most balanced yet untapped prospect pool the NHL has seen in almost a decade, kids of superb talent who are almost becoming NHL ready, who will start to make it in 1 to 3 years time tops. What they needed was not an old Dinosaur with the work ethic of a nutjob drill sergeant but a guy who has proven he can work with a group of kids to get them to fulfill their potential and bring them to their league's playoff and conf finals level.
And who was there on the Market ? Patrick freakin Roy !
He inherited the Quebec Remparts and made them the very best team, not only in the Q but in the whole CHL for 2 years in a row. That's a guy like him they needed not Mike – I'll make them compete at the cost of their mental health and sanity until they're disgusted from the sport – Babcock.

  11. honestly, i think he'll do better. You could tell from one of his press conferences that he's going to coach differently. time will tell if he actually can, but i think with all the scrutiny and pressure that will inevitably come his way, he'll be forced to tone it down
