Hey all and here is a news video. Also, here is the article I referenced regarding Ken Dryden’s views on Bob Murdoch’s condition: https://torontosun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/dryden-my-friend-bob-murdoch-is-struggling-with-lewy-body-dementia-we-must-do-more-to-stop-head-shots-in-sports

  1. I have to start saying i dont like Wilson as a player. But i understand what he brings to his team and 6.5 mil for that is not bad. Atleast for first 4-5 years. He is 29 and have had injurys so making long term for the players side it makes sense. However.. I dont get the Capitals side of this. If they cant break in to the playoffs player like Wilson on trade deadline will give you returns… Half retained Wilson will give you serious returns. Will that give you better change on next few years to retool fast and then be back on the cup hunt? Also this year trading players on there last year of contract is interesting due the salary cap rising. On trade deadline they will have good idea how much it will raise and prehaps trade and sign is something you can do.. Do for Wilsons side i get it but is he the guy who will help you down the line to win a cup or can you get assets aka high draft picks or good prospects on trade deadline?

  2. Long term contracts that seem like a bad deal on the back end aren't usually so. Players go on LTIR, which in the wacky cap world has value, for example. In 3 or 4 years (M-NTC) Wilson will still have significant trade value if he wants to go to a contending team as a deadline deal. There will be 7 years of cap increases (barring, you know, Bubonic Plague epidemic or something) so his 6.5 in 2030 won't look as bad as it does here in 2023. I don't look at these kinds of contracts as that "risky" anymore.

  3. That Wilson deal is shocking Caps are screwed did the same with Ovi and Backstrom’s deals going into forever and ever 🤦‍♂️

  4. umm…. you make your choices and you live with the consequences, or you don't make that initial decision.

  5. I dont think this is as bad as it seems for Wilson. Omce Ovi and Backy are off the books and hang uo the skates Washington will need a heart amd aoul leader and Wilson has proven many times he is that. The wear on his body is the only concern and even then hes shown to be fairly resilient for his play style

  6. Not only is Wilson’s contract outlandish and incapable of aging well.
    It’s greedy.
He is no where near good enough for that kind of money.
    9 million this year.
This contract will haunt Washington for 7 years.
    Edit spelling error

  7. I think Wilson is getting paid what he's worth right now. The term is a bit long, but even still I believe it'll seem like a bargain in five years. I've already commented that I think he'll have a career season in 23-24. I'm a little leery of the post contract jinx but I still believe he will do it. Like pushing close to 40 goals kind of belief and close to 90 points.
Last word, from me, on the contract, if he can average 25-30 goals and 70 points over the next five seasons… worth it.

  8. Of course, rest in peace Bob Murdoch, solid guy.

Dryden's theory doesn't really stand, I mean a lot of players have gone through the majors and minors of the no-helmet era, no doubt several had concussions, but Alzheimer's is not a prominent cause of death among players, it happens, but not in any greater frequency than strokes, heart attacks, and cancer. The only way you truly prevent any injuries is to not play hockey, not to walk, not to live. It's sad and no doubt players deal with injuries after hockey, as I personally do, but that's life.

  9. I wonder what Crosby's life is going to be like in about 15-20 years, with the number of concussions he's had.

  10. I think THG should try a news video where he russian dolls his way through several jerseys as he goes from team to team. Also, please don't talk about the Pens with a caps jersey on 🙁

  11. I remember Murdoch as a very solid defensive defenseman with the LA Kings. Don't remember him as much with the Habs. The Habs had so many good players in those days it was hard to keep track. The other thing I remember is he had one of the best 1970's hockey player mustaches in the league. Definitely a top 5. (There were actually two Bob Murdochs playing in the NHL at the same time in the 70s. The other Bob Murdoch was Donny Murdoch's brother).

  12. I strongly believe the caps are up for a good season. Wilson healthy extremely effective in many ways. Scoring, hitting, leading. He is still young. Mantha determined to have his best season ever. Backstrom a big question mark. He can pass the puck pretty well as anyone, but can he play? Is he healthy? He will be given a chance at training camp but the caps will have a short leash on him this year. He has to be healthy or he will not be on the roster. Ovechkin I think is in for a big year and perhaps the first ever to score 50 ten times. Probably his last shot at doing it. With a younger coach and younger players coming in I hope the caps can squeeze their way into the playoffs. As long as they do that anything is possible. Again. Mantha among others need to deliver the goods and stay healthy. I want to see ovie score 40+ but more importantly see the caps winning games and looking good mid season.

  13. Yo, I know the cap's going up, but $6.5mx7 for a guy who plays a physical game like Wilson is a choice. He's a 40-50 point guy, but idk how his body and point production will hold up until 2031.

  14. As a Pens fan, I love this contract. His best days have passed. Very likely this contract will age like milk on a summer afternoon. 😂

  15. Coming from a Caps fan, everyone in the fan base wanted Tom Wilson back. Yes it's expensive, yes the term is long, but most of us just want a competitive team for the rest of Ovi's career so he can get the goal record.
