I think Petry eould have been fine five years ago .Turning 36 in December makes him too iffy and expensive for the kind of prospect Montreal would want. We have nemo and desharnais working hard for permanent status. Come the trade deadline if we still need a right shot stud defenseman to go over the top the Oil should do that instead.
Mock trade Oilers receive Scott mayfield (50%retained), nick bjukstad (50% retained) NY Isles receive Cody ceci, Jan jenik and oilers 2024 3rd Coyotes receive oilers 2nd and 5th and isles 6th. Would be fantastic trade for the oilers. Add a top 4 dman and some more depth. He was a fantastic addition for the oilers last season.
I think they need to Give Ceci another chance to prove himself before they decide to trade him. He is only 29 and can have a great season with the team. He wasn't bad in 2021-2022 and battled injuries last year. Nolan Patrick would be an interesting PTO as he has offensive upside but not sure he would be a fit on the 4th line.
Why would a player as smart as Petry want to play in Edmonton? Letting him go was one of the amazing Moronic Oiler moves under MCT. Ceci is a good D man for the money, and losing him wouldn't help anything.
I’m a big no on a trade Ceci for Petry. 1. Give the guy a chance this year and if he doesn’t improve then trade him. 2. The age difference is a huge issue. Petry isn’t a spring chicken. So it should be an easy pass but the Oilers should keep looking like I said if Ceci doesn’t improve the way that they think he should be then trade!

Ceci makes less per year than Petry does, so I don't see this deal going through. Though Montreal will have to make a few more moves in order to get down underneath the cap ceiling. Anaheim and Chicago seem to be the most likely teams that can take on an expensive deal. For a price, that is. Foegele is the most likely forward to be traded or bought out if a guy on a PTO can take his spot by the end of the preseason. Patrick and White would most likely play on the 4th line if they leave enough of an impression.

Either way I don't see him as much of an upgrade over Cody.
