By trading for Karlsson id say they are playoffs or bust, but the Sabres are gonna be there

I think as difficult as it will be, now is the time for Buffalo to leapfrog into a divisional spot. Boston and Tampa are on their way down. With injuries, there’s no guarantee that Florida will be better than last year. I don’t think both WC slots are going to the Atlantic.
Shiny_Mew76
Buffalo I think will actually be one of the best teams this season, considering how much promise that was shown with their near endless young talent last season.
Penguins are basically doing a Cup or Bust this season. After this year, they will probably hit the self destruct button and sell everything.
I still absolutely love that Penguins logo though!

No, we really didn’t give up a lot to get Karlsson

All this positive Sabres talk is making me nervous!!

Adding Karlsson is Dubas YOLOing again IMO.
We’ll see if it works this time 🤷♂️

Sabres are perennial losers, and penguins still have Crosby soo, penguins

If those old farts on Pittsburg can stay healthy, pittsburg. But when they inevitably break a hip or two, Buffalo

Thank you Pittsburgh! He’s your problem now.

Sabres will make it this year. So many great young players

Pens. If they miss the playoffs it’s kinda like well they tried the revitalization and it didn’t work, but if Sabres miss it again, it’s more like damn they missed it AGAIN.
EvetsYenoham
Pens are obviously going all in for one more cup run while they still can with the Crosby-Malkin-Letang core. Around 2027-2028 will be some dark times. But that’s how they got two of the top five greatest hockey players of all time.
Mikeyg808
Yes. Yes they will.
Deraj2004
Both teams main issue is in goal at this point and it almost feels like a coin flip on who gets in.
JasonPlattMusic34
I’d still rather be the Penguins because Crosby and Karlsson are still better than anyone on the Sabres roster.

Pittsburgh you can take Murray back. Free.

Sabres are essentially playing with house money at this point. The only real way they’re worse than last season is if Power and Dahlin regress and the goaltending doesn’t hold up. Either way I don’t think it’d be catastrophic for them to miss the playoffs. The penguins are very much so all in, a missed playoff birth would be brutal. Especially after the Karlsson trade.

With the Sabres there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
With the Penguins, the light is an approaching train.
They have maybe 2 years left with this core. At best.
Sabres for me.

LOLz, Erik Karrlson.
What is more likely this year? The guy last year, or the guy (at 34) who the previous 4 seasons played around 50 games and looked like the game left him behind.
Sure, he might put awesome years back-to-back (or even more than then that) but I bet he will regress to the mean.
That means the Penguins overall are older, slower, and less able to compete. Welcome to the bottom of the league in 2025 / 2026.

Penguins won’t even make the playoffs. Now, they have two of the worst defensive defensemen in the league. They’re going to have to score a boatload of goals to overcome their horrible defense.
MRR19898
This is a stupid question. One is at the end of their window and the is just starting.
Obviously you’d like to be at the start of a window, but the team whose is closing won 3 cups.

With those moves, they are basically cup (or very deep run) or bust.
If they barely make the playoffs and then are bounced in 5 in round 1, they will still be memed to death.
Shreknadoboi
Both teams have expectations but the penguins are very much now or never
If the sabres miss, there will be disappointment but it shouldn’t all be lost (unless it really goes in the crapper)
JonTheWizard
Yes, doubly so if the Sabers make it.
JerbearCuddles
Sabres and it’s not even close. I’d rather be the Sabres for the next 10 seasons easily. Unless Pittsburgh wins the lottery and gets Celebrini or something. But even then, Buffalo has a lot of exciting youngsters and a bright future.
