  1. Rutts and Granlund also have 2 years so they dont need to be moved this year. I agree here, I think Grier did really well here.

  2. I find it funny that San Jose was a team not to sweat so there was no real effort from the team they were playing against let this plug out perform his actual abilities, it's like how the oilers of the 80s were "so good", playing in the western conference against ahl equivalent teams, also he was still a -27 on the season, so for 100 points he was on the ice for 127ish goals against, he is a total 1 way player and Crosby isn't going to tolerate him and dubas is going to learn real quick what having an established winner on the team is like with moves like this

  3. My initial thought wasn't as far as the Sharks got fleeced but it did take a couple hours for to think of the long term ramifications of this move which make the move look more palatable for the Sharks.

  4. I think this easily a win for the Sharks. They have 5 contracts they can move next season on expiring contracts in 2024. They can easily fetch another 1st round draft pick next season. They have enough cap space next season to fetch a big free agent if they wanted to.

  5. Yeah he got injured and has a big contract but he’s one of the best defencemen in the league best offensively and a decent at defence a terrific puck mover, best eyes/playmaking in the game besides McDavid so I think this was a very good deal even if you only have him for a couple years Pittsburg is a old team they will rebuild or retool in a couple years anyways so this just gives them a big boost to play out the rest of Crosby and Karlsson, Malkins Carrers with a good chance at playoffs and possible contention.

  6. SJ did get robbed. Take the Pens trash. 1st round pick will likely not be between 20-30 SJ can have that. Karlsson got 101 pts, on a team with no stars. Now he will have the best player feeding him, to go along with Malkin. It would be shocking if he doesn't get more then 101 pts. This is not including the pp which having both Letang and Karlsson along with Crosby, malkin and guentzel is frightening.

  7. Sharks fan here: This year, guessing not much (or any) cap relief for the Sharks. But maybe at the dealine we can trade those players (and Couture) and get some picks / assets??? And this should help the Sharks get better draft poitioning, so there is that. Although with Babcock taking the helm in Columbus, doubt we are going to finish last overall.

  8. Sjs basically bought a first for 1.5 mil. When they traded burns they bought a 3rd for 3.4mil. It’s a win in that sense, but even more so when you consider the other elements of trade

  9. As a pens fan u got fleeced those guys u got are minor leaguers horrible last year ok pal u keep dreamin u got major fleeced your welcome

  10. I think the Sharks got market value considering age, injury history, and contract length.

What looks bad is the difference in what they paid to get him Vice what they got in return.

  11. Long time Sharks fan here. When Grier came in I said the biggest issue with the Sharks contract situation was paying massive money for Burns, Karlsson and Vlasic. They were paying something like $27 million dollars for 3 d men over 30 and they didn't have any cap space left to fill out the roster. He has now gotten rid of 2 of those contracts and it is obvious that nobody was going to take Vlasic's contract since he is making $8 million to be a third pairing D man at this point.

This rebuild will take 3-4 years before the Sharks are looking like a playoff team again. Grier is doing a great job of cleaning up the absolute disaster that Doug Wilson left this franchise in. The Sharks have $7.5 million in dead cap space this coming season. This season is the last of the large buyout payments to Martin Jones ($3.9 mil). Then the Burns salary retention goes away before the 2025-2026 season. So the Sharks will likely be a lottery team again this season and as it stands now they have $4 million in available cap space. Labanc, Hoffman, Duclair, Barabonov and Lindblom are all UFA's after this season so expect the Sharks to pick up a lot of draft picks at the deadline. The next draft the Sharks already have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds and may increase that number at the trade deadline.

  12. Only way sj got fleeced is if karlsson puts up either: another 100 points or a Norris or a Stanley cup. Good deal to San Jose win otherwise.

  13. The only possible loser of this trade is Pittsburg if he doesn't ball out – that's it. SJ was in no way contending for the Cup for the next 2-3 years at minimum, so even if Karlsson repeats as Norris and the Penguins win the cup, it was a great handling of the player by Grier.

  14. Let me introduce you to Sidney Crosby. Dude is 36 years old and nobody in the league would turn him down if he offered his services on a reasonable rate. What makes you think Erik is gonna be any different? Trying to claim anyone made out other than the Pens is an incredibly moronic take

  15. Karlsson only excels when he’s the best player on the team. When the sharks were stacked, he didn’t make much noise. Thank his he’s gone.

  16. I think the Sharks scored here. Karlssons contract is MASSIVE, he's almost certainly going to decline pretty soon and possibly quite harshly and he had a MONSTER season. Mikael Granlund has been declining but he can bounce back a bit and help younger guys develop. Hoffman can lead as well.

  17. Karlsson is 33, will never have another season like last year and he cost an arm and a leg. Don't need that on a rebuilding team and frankly, am almost surprise they didn't have to pay to dump his contract. So whoever says SJ got fleeced, doesn't know hockey.

  18. Love this trade its been a while since we've seen a win win and win all 3 teams win in this trade love to see it Dubas just knows how to move Grier doesn't have to retain cap and Kent gets trade bait at the deadline amazing wish my cash strapped nucks could make moves like this

  19. Actually cap space doesn’t matter to a rebuilding team. There’s no point in having it bc no free agents are signing with SJ right now. They stink and will stink for 3-4 more years at least. I don’t get the cap space angle.
