Toronto Maple Leafs’ Darcy Tucker’s hit on Sami Kapanen of the Philadelphia Flyers was a memorable NHL body check, and not only because of the check itself. It was the aftermath of this hockey villain’s play that puts this one in the books.
Kapanen was racing down into the offensive zone looking to make the play. From what was shown on camera, Tucker appears like a phantom and stymies Sami along the boards with a vicious body check. Kapanen’s body was parallel with the ice upon impact, and then he dropped to the ice like a 200-pound anvil. The play continued, but Kapanen was knocked so hard that he did his best impression of a headless chicken on the way back to the bench, woozy beyond comprehension.

Great hit by Tucker and gutsy move by Kapanen to get up and get to the bench. Man, were those guys tough back then.
I prefer the Toronto radio call on this hit, but have only ever heard it on sports talk shows.

I hate the Flyers so much that if world peace were dependent upon me rooting for them for even one game, we're doomed. Anytime a Flyer is injured or incapacitated in any way is a good thing. Case in point: "Campbell just DESTROYED Umberger…!!"

I miss Darcy Tucker so much man. One of my favorite Leafs of all time. The buds really need to start making big hits like this again.

One of the Flyers was waiting until Kapanen got to the bench before jumping over the boards. Even though Kap’s brain was in another time zone and didn’t know up from down, Philly would’ve been penalized for too many men on the ice.
I was waiting for Tucker to get jumped. Then I remembered there used to be a time when a body check was part of the game…

The thing is…and sadly….. Kapanen has lost coordination and most likely a brain injury concussion has occurred … "i personally Feel" it hard not to feel for any hockey player and to see any human professional trying to get off the ice….. it could be the end of his Career…. not good…on the end of the day.. he is like everyone. he has family and love ones

I was at that game. Killer hit but i remember the goal Roenick scored to end the season !
I was at this game. This hit was epic. His grandmother felt it. And then about 30 seconds later, after a couple of end to end swings in the play, Jeremy Roenick came the other way and eliminated the Leafs who then wandered in the 1st round desert for 19 years.
I'm here after Bennetts piledriver on Knies and got away with it. I hope Bennett gets hit this hard at some point in the series. Fuck the Panthers.
