Is someone snoring in the background?
The reason why nobody trades with the Canucks is because they don't have desirable contracts.
The Canucks only bargaining chips that teams are interested in is Elias and Demko.
Sign Bear to a good deal and use him as trade bait at the deadline and package in a bad contract so you can resign Elias and another player.
Look how Montreal just picked up a third goalie and Jeff Petry as a right handed shooter in exchange for a bad contract and Pitlick who is a marginal regular player.
Petry and DeSmith might never play in Montreal, but with Pittsburgh paying 25% of the Petry contract, he is now a desirable bargaining chip to trade. And DeSmith or Jake Allen could be a fantastic second goalie to another team making them desirable bargaining chips on good contracts also.
The Canucks need bargaining chips. Bear would be a good resigning just because he is a right shooting defenseman that can play in the league and his asking price is low because of the injury. If he doesn't heal well and recover, it's not big money wasted. The risk is low for potentially a good bargaining chip later. Even if he turns into a trade for a draft pick. Small price to pay to resign him and have the bargaining chip for later.
