Is this speculation or new information?

I usually agree with Mirtle on a lot of things. This one I think he’s off. I don’t think this roster is weaker than last season, not at all.

Last year the Leafs started the year with Bunting on the top line and Malgin on the second line. Assuming Domi and Bertuzzi in those spots, I’d certainly gamble on this year over last year.

The bottom two I can get with. Engvall and Kerfoot are gone. I assume Knies and Kampf take those spots with Jarnkrok. I don’t think that’s a big enough drop to be overly concerned with. Aston-Reese and Aube-Kubel gone from the fourth is another wash, I think. A rotation of Lafferty, Reaves, Holmberg, and Steeves should balance what last year’s 4th line produced.

Defense is looking stronger as well.

Reilly, Brodie, McCabe, Liljegren, Klingberg, and Giordano gives me more confidence than Muzzin, Holl, and Sandin.

Sammy and Woll in net should be a better combo that having Murray limp his way through the season.

So yeah, I disagree. If anything, this team is on par with last season.
