  1. Using a 1 and 2 that most likely will never make an impact to rid themselves of around 14 mil of dead weight is a win itself. Then to get erik karlsson on top of that and say they ruined depth that never existed last year and say its not a good deal?? Is this guy smoking crack or what???

  2. Frank doesn't know what he's talking about, as usual. At least he's not making us stuff today, as usual.

  3. san jose gets cap flexibility and assets to flip at the deadline plus a first. they are set up in a way a rebuilding team should be. plus the contracts they took on are not long term

  4. I don't believe the Sharks have been in a rebuild for 4 years. They've been in denial under Wilson and now in Grier's 2nd year they're in the 2nd year of a true rebuild.

There's no doubt that I'd prefer Grier to go ahead and retain more in order to gain a larger package, but that could be costly down the road in 3-4 years when we need to place talent in UFA signings for our young core (Eklund, Smith, Musty, Mukh, Thrun, Bystedt, Bords, etc.). I don't expect the Sharks to be any better than we were last year to gain more a more top-end footprint with the prospect pool, even with low-risk signings and trades for players that will have larger spotlights in San Jose with better roles. There's now a mixture of competitiveness between NHL vets with something to prove and prospects looking to get onto the roster. It's a win-win situation for prospect development and gaining assets over the trade deadline. The big thing is that players care who they play for and know that Grier will treat them well by either giving them a chance to get bigger minutes or if shit hits the fan and they request a trade, he'll do his best to make it happen.

  5. Not sure all the hate towards the return we got. We picked up players who could have a decent year and would be eligible to be flipped at the deadline. We also got a 1st round pick who will end up being somewhat decent. By next offseason, we will have a ton of cap space and could add a bunch of young talent. Couture needs to be shipped off and sent to a contender

  6. Best of luck for the Pens, but don’t be surprised if he declines again. He doesn’t work well with other talented defenseman. He likes to be the top guy and he may not perform the way he did when he was the main guy on the Sharks.

  7. Penguins lost depth in this trade? No they didn’t. They gained cap space to be more efficient with their depth signings. Frank has some…interesting takes on the Pens lol

  8. Lol “I think Montreal won the trade”.

They received a second round pick and Jeff Petry, essentially, in the trade and they “won”?

Haha the Penguins got a defensemen who is probably going to put up 70 points. The penguins got rid of Granlund, Petry, a 1st and a 2nd.

Lol hardly “giving up their future”.

Penguins won this trade, no question.

  9. The Penguins won the deal!!!! They literally traded their bad players for the best player of the deal. None of the players that the Penguins gave up are good or even decent players. The only thing the Penguins lost is a 1st and 2nd draft pick. That is it. The guy saying the Canadians won the deal must be a Canadian homer….which is typical of people that follow hockey. Of course these are the same people that think people shouldn't be suspended for taking cheap shots on other players….because the players that took the cheap shot aren't rough enough

  10. The Pens remind me of the Avs when they went out and got Selanne and Kariya. That little experiment didn’t work out.I get the same vibes here.

  11. “I don’t know what San Jose is doing” bro do you even want to call yourself a sports commentator? They’re committing to a rebuild, part of that is off loading big contracts of players that won’t be apart of the team again when the next window opens. Karlsson also has a four year contract left where they’re only retaining 1.5M of it. Just a little over a year ago Karlsson was considered “untradeable” given his injury woes, if he regresses at all this season the Sharks are going to look like the made off like bandits.

  12. Frank can be such a Muppet!!! Really doesn't have a clue most times.
