GAME RECAP: Penguins at Lightning (03.02.23) | Petry and Zucker Strike Twice in Tampa

The Penguins continued along on their road trip, heading to the Sunshine State to take on the Lightning for the second time in a week. Tampa Bay struck first in the opening period of play to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Kris Letang exited the game on the goal after taking a puck to the face but would later return. Jeff Petry lit up the scoreboard in the second, tallying back-to-back goals within 30 seconds of ice time to put the Penguins out front. The Lightning would end up answering back with a score of their own but Jason Zucker regained the lead for Pittsburgh with his 18th goal on the season. The third period of play was a lot of back and forth. Tampa Bay would lead it off with a score which Drew O’Connor would answer to, but the Lightning would ultimately tie things up once again, 4-4, to force overtime. Pittsburgh would get that last laugh though as Jason Zucker netted one home for the Penguins victory. With this win, Pittsburgh has now won four-straight and completed a season series sweep on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

  1. Great win but hope we’re not going on same path as before, win 6-8 in a row then lose the same.

  2. LET’S GO PENS!!!! (music at the end of the video damn near gave me a heart attack! maybe dial back the post video tunes!)

  3. Where is all the hate for the sub par goaltending? Jarry kept them in this game time & time again, the only reason this game was even close was penalties, this team refuses to stay disciplined, good to see 35 getting back into form

  4. O'Connor's goal his execution for a sec he looks like Sid there protecting the puck with his body, lifting up the other guy's stick before he delivers the puck in.

  5. Good to see the team win, especially getting goals from the unusual suspects. Definitely needed to get into and through the playoffs. Poor Tanger, though. He's highly offended the hockey gods this year, or broke a mirror, spilled salt…something. His luck has been horrible, but good to see him fight through and come back.

  6. Best game in quite a while, against the best team in the league no less. See, guys, you can win when you make the effort!

  7. Bit of a punch below the belt for Tanger this game, shot in the hand, shot in the face, and everyone's dads being there. At least they take the win home.

  8. With all the noise when the Pens scored I was wondering if it was not only Dad’s trip, but moms siblings extended family, high school buddies, former junior teammates, front office staff, etc. trip

  9. I'm 💯% sure that MG64 will suprise all Penguins fan's how smart player he is… I'd love to see him playing with Crosby & Malkin

  10. DOC's goal was alah Jordan Staal from game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals in 2009. That was the exact same notion when Staal scored on Brian Rafalski way back. He def needs more playing time for the Pens.

  11. Dads trip was crazy. pens won almost every game. We gotta bring their dads to every game
