Glad it’s only a one year contract so we’re not handcuffed if he ends up being bad. Hoping we can continue this trend of being a free agent landing spot for possible reclamation projects

  2. OptimusReims34

Basically league minimum. Its a good injury backup incase woll or sammy goes down

  3. BloodBatman

He’s probably going to be what dell was meant to be for us a couple years ago. A depth goaltender as a 3rd stringer, that we can rely on in a pinch. I have no doubt Woll will be backing up beginning of season unless Jones plays out of his mind in preseason

  4. I don’t see how you can hate this move:

    – A decent option in case of injury

    – Can be buried in the minors with no cap impact

  5. Aedan2016

Don’t like it, but can make this vanish without worry.

    Fine

  6. ItWasntRigged

Decent pickup for 2/3 goalie if woll isn’t ready

  7. Rowdy_Roddy96

Oh sweet salty christ no…. I understand for goaltending insurance but damn it I wanted Halak

  8. Big_Albatross_3050

I swear if this guy gets claimed too like Dell, I’m calling shenanigans

  9. theycallmemorty

A good third option but if he ends up playing any important games we’re in big trouble.

Welp, looks like I’ve got some comments about Martin Jones to delete.

I don’t hate this as long as he’s almost entirely an AHL guy who comes up if/when someone gets hurt.

  11. My theory based on nothing: Sammy is still hurt/had surgery and will miss the start of the season. Woll has to pass waivers so he’s automatically one of our two goalies. Jones is brought in for short term split duty and then falls back into third string role.

  12. FinalMalus

Good depth move. Our backup goalie would’ve been Petruzzelli or Hildeby if Sammy/Woll got hurt, so it’s nice to have an experienced NHL goaltender in that role instead.

$875k for buddy who went 27-13-3 last year is awesome. Keeps our goalies on their toes while adding some cheap depth.

  14. crumbypigeon

We needed a move like this.

Iirc there was only 6 or 7 goalies (not counting murray) between the 3 teams in the organization.

1 or 2 injuries and either the marlies of growlers are gonna be playing emergencies goalies while we ice guys with near zero NHL experience.

He’ll play for the marlies most of the time and maybe play a handful of games for the leafs if there’s injuries.

  15. JRocleafs

lol people are actually questioning this signing and calling it bad?

It’s a 875 000$ contract that can me completely buried. We needed some goaltending depth, Woll is inexperienced and has a history of injuries as does Sammy. Adding a NHL veteran as the 3rd string is one of the smartest things we could of done.

  16. reggythriller

I hope there was communication to Woll prior to making this signing. Woll deserves to be back up and play what Sammy doesn’t.

  17. GracefulShutdown

We Looooooooove our goalies formerly from California teams as a franchise.

  18. I’m whelmed. It’s like when they got Dell. Good incase we need him. Anyone know if he can be put on the Marlies without clearing waivers?

  19. I know his record was good but wasnt Jones statistically one of if not the worst goalie in the league for individual stats?

  20. sokocanuck

Interesting, as Woll is not waiver-exempt this coming season

  21. Videogamer2719

So do we still have Murray, or are we gonna LTIR him the whole season?

  22. AustonDadthews

hoping the plan is for him to be the #3. I get that there’s nothing in the system behind samsonov and woll, but there had to have been better options out there right? somebody with at least some upside.

  23. VeryAttractive

He’s 100% getting claimed on waivers in the preseason like Dell was

  24. Honestly for a 3rd string goalie Martin Jones is fine. He’s been terrible for a long time now but he has played in the league for a while now so a veteran 3rd strong isn’t a bad option.

  25. TripleBicepsBumber

Kraken fan here, Jones got us into the playoffs full stop. When he’s on his game he’s a vezina candidate, but when he’s off he’s *really* off. Thankfully for us he was on more than off. Double edged sword but I hope he’s really solid for you guys, he has a super calming way of playing, fantastic positioning. I know you’ve been plagued with bad injury luck with goalies etc.
