Happy Wednesday, and yes, the Erik Karlsson content continues. It is Erik Karlsson week after all! Hunter and Pat start the show off by discussing who between Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson will be getting the true top pairing minutes. Is it going to be closer than some think? Hunter gives his argument for what could put Kris Letang over the top while Pat gives his argument as to who is going to get the more time. They then discuss how this is a great luxury for the Penguins and Mike Sullivan to have since they’ve never really had this for as long as he’s been the head coach. After that, they discuss a couple of comments that Mike Sullivan made to Josh Yohe recently and how he’s super pumped about the deal after the Jacob Chychrun thing fell through with Ron Hextall. They look at who he will likely deploy Karlsson with and how he’s not super concerned about his defense since he won’t have to be the same player that he was with the Sharks. Finally, they debut a new weekly segment for the first time and while it won’t fully start until the regular season begins, they both thought it’d be best to debut it for this Wednesday edition of the show.

What you think about having letang QB the pp2. and roll 1d 4f pp's
– If they can find someone that gels with Karlsson, like Timo Meier did in San Jose, OOH WATCH OUT!! Someone with a good one-timer, Malkin would fit it perfectly, he would just need to get used to Karlsson's tendencies and he could get those tape-to-tape one-timer gifts like Karlsson would hand to Meier.
– I think especially hearing Dubas say it and reading the Yohe article with Sully, they both mentioned them playing 50 minutes combined, I am guessing you're going to see no true 2nd pair, there will be two top pairs and then a 3rd pairing.
– I would like to see some testing, but I think a PP1 of Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Rakell, Karlsson would be a great setup if Letang on the half wall isn't working out as they hope it will.
– Erik Karlsson and Paul Coffey comparison is definitely valid, only difference is Karlsson's legs are pumping bringing him forward and somehow Coffey could do it while seeming to just glide, the guy was an anomaly.

Having both at 20-25 minutes a game is a big win
I would make the top pair Pettersson-Karlsson and then the second pair Graves-Letang. Pettersson has proven he's our best defensive dman, so I'd pair Karlsson with him, and Graves-Letang is extremely solid as well. I'm actually excited for the season for the first time in years, thank you Kyle Dubas. I might even go to a game or two this season because Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson is basically a must watch.
