  1. I'm kinda surprised it wasn't Jaroslav Halak because for so long I've wanted him to be a Maple Leaf but I digress. So, here is my thinking on this? Jones will be the 1B to start off the NHL season alongside Samsonov while Woll starts in the AHL. I know Woll seems like he has earned that 1B behind Sammy and he has but you can't expect Woll to go into this NHL season and play 30+ GMs as a backup. Samsonov will likely shoulder about 40/48 GMs this season while Jones gets the odd start here and there and maybe tops out at about 15GMs in between the October / November Months in the schedule. Woll will get the reps in the AHL and if he has a repeat performance in the AHL like he did last year then the Leafs front office will know that it will be his time to be called up. Yes, Jones would then be placed on waivers and most likely claimed but if properly done you can give Samsonov rest and still give the team a chance to win on his off days with a serviceable vet goalie and in the meantime, you continue to develop Woll into the ideal, young 1B to Samsonov and then you ride both goalies hopefully to a lengthy playoff run

  2. For a while there the Kaken were winning games with 15 goals being score in them. 😂

That’s probably why his stats don’t match the record. 😂

  3. He's gonna have better numbers in Toronto than he did in San Jose. They were old and declining. With Karlsson hurt and superstars like Vlasic, a 40yo Joe Thornton and the 21st coming of Christ Marleau.

  4. If Martin Jones plays well in just 5 games he's going to get a multimillion dollar contract next season because he has the Leafs factor.

  5. Any coincidence Jones waited to see where Karlson landed. Goalies numbers do reflect on the defence in front of him.

  6. If he survives to start as backup, it’s a good move, as you said they would definitely lose Woll off waivers.

  7. I doubt that any NHL team has done a worse job drafting and developing goaltending than the Leafs…nobody, period, no argument. Every team claims that above all you need solid goaltending to win in the playoffs, and yet so many do a piss poor job of bring along goaltenders…the NHL just proves itself to be a Mickey Mouse league time after time.

  8. yawn. who cares…. least of their problems. the good thing is the team will not look the same when trade deadline comes

  9. Both Jones and Woll will get claimed. Let Jones get claimed (most likely Tampa) and then claim someone else, there’ll be a bunch due to how saturated the nhl goalie market is

  10. If Jones has more starts than Matt Murray last year then their might be a slight issue.

  11. that smartest move the leafs can do is sign 2 guys (e.g. also grab elliot) to shield themselves from a guy getting claimed (except for that time with Pickard and McEliney…

  12. Just when you thought that maybe the leafs have learnt their lesson. Nope. Back to the bargain basement – clearance bin to fill the most important position. Good Job!!
