  1. So, if McDavid & Draisaitl sign megabucks contracts with the Oilers, will the team ever have the depth of talent spread across four lines required to win the Stanley cup?

  2. I feel like they'll stay unless something absolutely heartbreaking happens in the next 2 seasons.

They're really at a point where they can't afford to lose (especially if its to either Colorado/Vegas again)

  3. As an Oiler fan this would be the best case scenario. I hope Frank is correct, but I’ll believe it when I see it!

  4. Here is the thing.. You can't split those two players. And what other team in the league can afford both of them? They are both going to get huge raises come the end of their contracts, but Edmonton is already paying them 18 or so million combined each year. What's the big deal if that number goes up to 22 or 24 million? That is a price I'd be willing to live with to keep arguably the two best players in the league in Edmonton for a few more years.

  5. i'm not sure how franchise split goes with merch sales…. but everything the oilers do seems to revolve around jersey sales.

they dont care about defense. they never have. they dont care about goaltending. they never have. all they care about are these players that will sell a ton of jerseys.

i think the oilers are kind of a joke. the only reason they arent currently trash like every other canadian team is because they got like a million 1st round picks.

in short, winning the stanley cup is not their main focus…. it's selling jerseys. and all the sheep are going to buy a mcdavid jersey whether or not he wins a cup.

  6. Edmonton fans are genuinely respectful when they see a current or former Oiler in public.

  7. In a few years when Montreal finishes rebuild, there will be another Canadien team contending for the cup for long time 😀

  8. Seravalli is almost as big of a joke as Bruce "Malkin to the Kings" Garrioch. He's wrong ALL THE TIME

  9. I need them to win just one cup to shut up all the nay sayers about mcdavid and draistl never getting one, please let those people eat a big ole shit burger without bread

  10. “The Oilers were the biggest laughing stock of the league”
The Leafs have been and always will be the biggest laughing stock of any league. Even when they consistently make the playoffs, no matter what they do, they could win the cup 10 yrs in a row and would still be considered a joke of a franchise. The hate is too strong.

  11. McDavid dreams nightly of being a Toronto Maple Leaf. Make no mistake he would bolt to Toronto if he had a chance

  12. At the moment anywhere is better for the Toronto Maple Leafs players. That's why Hyman chose to go to Edmonton than stay in Toronto and he was better for it. IMO, Toronto lacks the leadership that they need from Matthews as their star player and while the current Oilers McDavid&Drisaitl has the same leadership chemistry as Gretzky&Messier's from the 80s.

  13. McDavid and Draisatl are the best 1-2 punch in the NHL bar-none. The way these guys play, it would be a awful if these guys didn't bring a cup to Edmonton. No one deserves it more.

  14. It's a good point that star players duck out of major market Canadian teams at the first chance…except EDM. Do the fans/city treat the players better? Are they staying because Connor and Drai are there and that immediately puts you in contention (and looks good on your stat sheet)? Both?

  15. Great report.
Re: Oilers dominance in the '80s…. let's not forget the dynasty of the NY Islanders from '80 thru '83. Powerful team winning 4 straight Cups…. Oilers won 2 then Habs won then Oilers won 2 more for their 4 cups in the '80s.
Re: McD & Draisaitl……these guys are in their prime and bonefide superstars BUT they are aging and there'll come a time in the next few seasons when their games will start to slip, to slow down, etc……Oilers MUST WIN a couple of Cups NOW to take advantage of those two in their ultimate prime o/w they run the risk of injury, getting old and the window closes.
Look at what Crosby, Malkin, and Letang have done with Pens…..if only it were that easy for all teams….😁
Oh….and one last parting shot AGAINST the mighty Oilers. As a Habs fan I am here to appreciate how good Oilers were in the '80s BUT the late '70s Habs team that won 4 straight Cups was BETTER!!! The '76/77 Habs team that went 60-8-12 IMHO is the greatest team ever…😁….just couldn't resist.

  16. Calling fucking taylor hall a star player is wild lmao bro is the physical embodiment of ass

  17. I love how the video opens with "they won 4 Cups in the 80s, nobody could touch that" when there was literally another franchise that did it first in the 80s.

  18. I mean the odds have always been in favor these two staying, but nothing Serevalli said constitutes an actual rumour. It was pure speculation of which there's no possible way he'd have any insight at this point in time.

  19. Maybe its just because ive grown up in a Northern Ontario city and am use to the cold. But it surprises me its such an issue for guys. During the season youre mostly going to and from your house and the rink. games practice, work out. youre mostly focused on that and your family. No matter what city it is, all the guys are going to be living in pretty nice neighborhoods. Every city is going to have a couple places you could go for a nice dinner or whatever you'd like. Then when the offseason comes you can go stay in which ever city you'd like. Maybe its just me, but it would not matter what city i lived in. I would be too focused on the game and my training to care about whats outside my house and the rink.

  20. I keep saying this with limited traction amongst my personal circle. But there exists another dimension. In this dimension, the Oilers never drafted Draisaitl. Connor McDavid thus doesn't get his best friend (even outside of hockey) and the one guy on the team that not only matches his passion level but backs it up with talent that is only a baby step behind McDavid himself. There is another dimension where Connor asked for a trade or refused to sign long term. It was Draisaitl that gave him hope, an anchor in the darkness, a guy and friend that "gets it".

  21. I mean ya they may stay oilers for life, but at some point their combined cap hits will be close to 30m. And thats a hell of a lot for just two players. Essentially means two forwards are taking exactly half of the cap allocated for the entire forward group. Draisatl’s contract extension will be interesting as I believe he is absolutely a 12 million a year player.

  22. I get McDavid. Seems pretty normal for Canadians to be content in a small, cold market for their career. See Crosby. But I would have guessed Leon would want the hell out of Edmonton for someplace glamorous. Good for Edmonton if he sticks around.

  23. So, just because Seravelli says this, it’s true? What’s his inside info? Not saying it can’t happen, but this seems a little premature.

  24. A big win would be if mcdavid signs a jersey number deal of 9.7M x 8 and Draisaitl signs a inverse jersey number of 9.2M.

  25. As an Oilers fan I was sure about Connors commitment.. Drai scares me though and I absolutely love him as a player.. I REALLY hope he signs long term

  26. For all his faults, one thing Ken Holland does well is inspire loyalty among his players (Detroit), now Edmonton.
