I think it's a decent price for wilson, he's someone that Brian and the caps see as a long term investment maybe a future C. He's already had the A before and will be there when Ovi, Kuzy, Backy, Oshie, Carlson ext leave

if wilson was 25 – then maybe this would be ok——–but 7 years old at 29 and at that salary is too much

Thatās just too much money for Wilson. Heās a good player, but his body is going to break down considering how he plays, and he hasnāt played the same since he recovered from his surgery last season. Like heās going to be 37 when this contract ends I donāt even think heāll make it to that point.
Horrible contract
Tom Wilson is a rare breed of player in the NHL and this is a great deal for the Caps IMHO–yeah, some would claim overpayment, but, that depends on what you value in a player of his talents.
Guentzel was playing in a 4on4 league in edina Minnesota 10 days ago.

As a Senators fan I like this contract. It ensures cap issues for the next 7 yrs and will keep the Caps out of the playoffs.
Having almost 31 teams begging for a player like Tom come playoffs who would most likely be happy to pay over $6.5m. He got the years because they want him for life (next captain) this isnāt a terrible contract when Mantha and Kuz come off the books. Plus the fact the cap WILL be going up this contract will begin to look like $4.5-5m
