2009 redraft: Miller 1st overall?

If we’re going by points per game Miller produces more than Huberdeau. He’s behind by 10 points and 32 games. IMO in the redraft Kucherov goes 1st overall and JT Miller 2nd. Change my mind.

    >he’s behind 10 points and 32 games

In what world is this true?

Miller has played 283 games and has 299 points in the last 4 seasons. Huberdeau has played 283 and has 309 points in the last 4 seasons.

10 point difference but same games played. So “32 games” doesn’t apply here.

    Career wise:

Huberdeau has 668 points in 750 games.

Miller has 536 points in 718 games.

Miller is 132 points career wise behind Huberdeau with a difference of 32 games. So the 10 point difference doesn’t apply here.

You’ve very obviously mixed up the numbers.

Career-wise it’s Huberdeau > JT Miller. Let’s not forget Huberdeau spent at least half his career on shitty Panthers teams until they started figuring it out as an organization while Miller played on both good/competitive Rangers and Lightning teams but he was buried in the depth charts.

Miller might not even be top 5 in a 2011 redraft. There’s Kucherov, Huberdeau, Gaudreau, RNH, Zibanejad and Schiefele who all have better career numbers than Miller. He goes top 10 in the redraft for sure, top 2 is pushing it though and it’s clearly Canuck bias if you’re taking him top 2. I could see someone saying he goes at 5 but IMO he’s probably a 6th or 7th overall pick in a redraft.

Now contract and cap wise for the remainder of their respective careers? Miller > Hubderdeau

In a re-draft, Miller probably jumps from #15 to between 6-11 overall. He has to still go behind:

    1. Kuch
    2. Gaudreau
    3. Hamilton
    4. Scheifele
    5. Nuge
    6. Huberdeau
    7. Can now make the argument for Miller, Zibanejad, Landy, Couturier

Miller, Miller Bo Biller, First Overall Fo Filler, Miiiiiiler

    Definitely not.

I wouldn’t even put Miller in the top-5 during a redraft.

    1. Kucherov (doesn’t need explaining, by far the most offensively explosive player in that draft)

    2. Hamilton (legitimate #1 RHD)

    3. Zibanejad (best center in the draft, has been absolutely dominant his last 5 seasons)

    4. Huberdeau (took a dive in Calgary, but prior to that, was considered one of the best wingers in the league)

    5. Nugent-Hopkins (basically has done everything Edmonton has asked of him, sneaky good center in both the offensive and defensive zone, one of the first scoring players from that draft)

    6. Couturier (was a late boomer like Miller, but is a true center and a perennial Selke calibre player while putting up nearly PPG production. Basically Ryan Kesler)

    7. Gaudreau (was defensively suspect sometimes in Calgary, but is easily one of the best pure offensive players from this draft)

    8. Landeskog (easily one of the best leaders form the draft. Became captain at 18, and while not as offensively talented as some of the other wingers here, he was an ideal power forward who could play a complete game on the ice)

    9. Miller (was a good top-six player for the first half of his career, but had issues defensively and could never produce in the offseason. Exploded offensively when he came to Vancouver. He’s currently playing down the middle, but isn’t considered a true center and suffers a lot still from defensive deficiencies)

    10. Gibson (top-5 goaltender in the league during his prime)

Great analysis guys. Definitely ruffled feathers for conversation but thanks for the feedback and statistics. My mind has been changed to have him go at 3-4.
