Montembeault phenomenal as Canadiens sweep Penguins | HI/O Show

On this week’s show, our panelists — former Canadiens defenceman and assistant coach Rick Green, Gazette columnist Stu Cowan and Canadiens podcast host Andrew Berkshire — along with host Moe Khan discuss the Habs’ win in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, which completed a rare season sweep of the Penguins and ended a seven-game skid after a tough homestand.

  1. I love that they find ways back into games, but even though they do seem to try and defend, they really lack any consistency in how they approach the game in their own end. Its hard to know how much that is that they have some playing for their future and some just trying to play out the season. As for this game, Pits just is not good right now. As for the rebuild, it helps greatly when you see a team and players that can finish that just gets back up every time they get a boot to the face. Pure entertainment is a great thing for a non competitive team.

  2. One of my favourite players on the Habs is speedy Paul Byron, can you provide an update on his health and will he play in the NHL ever again. Thank you and best wishes to Pat Hickey on a wonderful career covering the Habs for the Gazette. Chapeau.

  3. The last Montembeault win just cost the Canadiens one more position at the draft. They went from 5th to 6th, it is a good thing that Arizona just won a couple of games; otherwise, the Canadiens would have slipped to 7th…A good rebuild usually goes along with getting players "early" at the draft to change the face of the franchise. However, the Canadiens have started the season with way too many veteran players on the team; so in fact, we are instead witnessing "a good retooling job on the fly" disguised as a "rebuild". That was exactly what Gordon did in New York having also won the draft lottery twice (Kakko & Lafreniere) along with some trades!!! If it was not for all the injuries, the Canadiens would have likely played close to "500" this season with Monahan as the second line center. MLS would have surely overplayed his best players (as he is doing now) while the goalies would have kept us in the games. So we would have drafted between 11th and 15th which is way too high in a rebuild year. Thanks for the injuries!!!
