How far away is each NHL team from their AHL affiliate? I made a map to find out.

Coachella Valley? Interesting. Might work though, lots of northern snowbirds there during the season

This needs an update. There is still Stockton Heat (Calgary) on there, which is now the Calgary Wranglers. And Coachella Valley Firebirds (Seattle) already started playing and made the Calder Cup Final a few months ago.

San Jose Barracuda (San Jose) also stopped sharing an arena with the Sharks. Not sure if it’s over a mile away now, but I’m pretty sure it is.

Calgary shares an arena with their affiliate nowadays though.

I find it odd that the wild affiliate is in iowa. It’s not like arenas In Minnesota are sparse

Don’t think it’s really fair to cut area of influence into Mexico and not continue westward of Vancouver or eastward of Montreal. I’m not sure if Mexicans watch as much hockey as people in Victoria, BC or in Halifax, NS do. It’s pretty cheap to say Arizona or Texas have the largest area of influence because your drew lines into Mexico and not in the north east and west

TIL Los Angeles is surprisingly close to Ontario.

As a Hawks fan, I’m always conflicted when the Wolves play the Ice Hogs. The Hogs are technically the Blackhawks affiliate, but the wolves are the local team (Rosemont is closer than Rockford) and have done a lot to grow the game in the Chicagoland area. I think that if the wolves were the affiliate, they’d draw way more fans from an already devoted fanbase.

Fake news, we don’t have an affiliate lol

I remember in the 90s, the Flyers needed an emergency backup. The goalie for the AHL team at the time took a golf cart from the Spectrum to what was then called the Wachovia Center.
