LOL 1st round pick for Jeff Petry, Only teams linked to him are Buffalo, Dallas and Detroit. And none of those teams are giving up a 1st for Jeff Freaking Petry.

I don't know why Fedotov wouldn't simply ask the Flyers for a mutual contract termination. Unless he is being held at gunpoint somewhere…sadly a real possibility, it should be pretty straight forward.

Honestly Mike, I disagree with you. If Hughes got an unprotected first round pick, and a prospect for Ben Chiarot, I'm pretty sure he can swing that for Jeff Petry, especially with the salary retention.

The deal between the NHL and the KHL is done. They can poach each others league.
A 3.9 mil offer sheet for Lafreniere would get it done (NYR has to shed 3 minimum salary players unless they trade Goodrow). At a cost of a 2nd rounder, why doesn't team like DET do it? You are risking very little to get a former 1st overall pick or at least make the life of NYR really difficult. If teams are worried about NYR retaliate in future years, I believe all their established players have contracts extending all the way to 2026/2027. So, why don't do it?!
Petry without Habs retaining is worth a second or high 3rd. Some teams are willing to pay a premium to get back cap space. I think Hughes will try to pry a late first but it could also involve the habs throwing in a 3rd or something. It certainly wouldn't be s straight up trade Petry for a first. He missed 20 games last year but he still was still on pace for 40 points. And right hand shooting dmen are in demand. Habs might surprise with what they get for him.
Would I absolutely love to get a first for Petry, do I think that is going to happen? Absolutely NOT, its a pipe dream at best. Any deal like that would have been looked at by Dubas. Like yes ik that Kent Hughes has 1.4 more dollars of retention that Dubas didn't have as an option, but he probably would have made it work. If Hughes pulled that off, give him the fucking thrown of trading because he would have turned Poehling, Hoffman, Pitlick and Petry for Matheson, a 2025 second, a first, a 2023 4th (idk the player), DeSmith, and Legare.

Not realistic for Petry.
IF they keep Petry and he plays well and remains healthy then history would indicate that a 1st Round pick is possible. But in the absence of any acknowledgment of the trade on the teams media channels, it is apparent that that is not the plan, so my expectations are low.
