We are in the doldrums of summer, and I’m bored of speculation. For a change of pace, I want to discuss something different. My first experiences with hockey were in the 1970s. We got to play coin op table hockey and foosball. The first hockey games I ever owned were Mattel Hockey and Coleco Head To Head Hockey (yes I’m showing my age). What were your favorite hockey games growing up? It can be table, electric, electronic, or digital. Each generation had something different.

I was originally thinking first game attended but my first was Wayne Gretzky Hockey/Hockey League Simulator for DOS. I think we had it set up that we could play the HLS games on WGH. I loved HLS. Used to name my team the Crushers
For me it was NHL 93.
There was also that game we had as kids where you use 3 quarters and try to hit the dragging one between two others until you are able to shoot it in the net your 7 years old buddy is making with two fingers laying on the table.
NHL 94 on the Sega Genesis!
This got me through so many car rides as a kid. Unlike a GameBoy, you could play it in the dark, lol.
Blades of Steel
NHL 2k10
It was Coleco head to head for me too!
Does Pong count?
Ice Hockey on the NES.
Or if we’re talking physical games it possibly was an older version of Stiga’s table hockey game (now they go by the name Stiga Play Off). In my version you could not go behind the net as with more modern version.
NHL98
Blades of Steel.
If you know it I know the exact accent/tone you just read the name above.

If you go to the bottom, there are metal players for type of hockey games that are pre-bubble tops.
I had that head to head it was awesome. I had one for baseball and football too.
It was one of either NHL 98 or 99, I was a little too young to remember.
First one that I played the shit out of was 2003 Hitz.
That blue Mattel hockey. Also had the football on from my uncle. And spent many hours playing them while my brother played his game boy. First hockey game that wasn’t those was NHL 2000 on PC. Played that for 2 years and I remember being mesmerised as I had Laraque put someone through the boards for the first time.
Nok Hockey
Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey on N64. I believe it came out in 1996 but I first played it around 2000
Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey

Nhl 96 id make the penguins an all star team. Pull the other goalie and win like 100-0 each game.
One time I played all games in season mode. Not all penguins games like every game on the schedule lol.
NES ice hockey and blades of steel.
Oh man that second one is digging up a memory, I can’t place it but I had that game it at least played it once.
But my first hockey game was probably then one with Lindros on the cover from 00, didn’t have a system until then.
The first game I seriously played tho was 01 with Owen Nolan. I played that game so often I can still distinctly remember the music and menu sound effects.
