Dorion made a incomprehensively bad trade giving Brown away for a 2nd round pick. He's really good on the PK or at least he was in Ottawa and was a very reliable 200 foot player on the ice for big minutes. Apparently that kind of injury will take some time to recover from.
The Oilers gave too much money to Nurse and really screwed the pooch with Campbell. I still remember the headline "The Oilers get their man" when they picked Yamamoto. I don't know how they're going to manage the cap but they better take care of Bouchard. Do not trade Broberg.

Fogelman is a power forward in the making…his playoff play was promising. Oilers depth will suffer even more if they deal him.

Vegas dominated Edmonton… the Oilers have fundamental weak links as an ensemble on defense…. the middle of the ice in front of the net is so vulnerable in Edmonton…. If Mcdavid had the open looks his own defense gives up he would have 230 points a season.
Get rid of both Foegele and Yamamoto and there is your breathing room… Both easliy replaceable at half the price too

I don't mind Oilers spending a 1st rounder or 2… but I need them to help the DCORE first.
Spend assets on that area and then move to the forward group.
Woody needs to trust Kostin and Holloway more next season… both need more ice time… and McLeod should be better next year too..

Great Discussion. Very concerning how fans/analysts are overdoing it w Bouchard. There have been so many weakness's & lack of drive/smarts/will/non-physical/not care etc. Fantastik that he did great w Ekholm month before contract but this is a classic way that Oiler GM's overpay & destroy the team. He is incomplete – but will get a lot of pts on PP… & demand more that a team that wants to win can or should pay. Hope it works out/ has shown potL lately -but if he has excess value now… trade him for a more complete D-man.
The issue on D seems to have been lack of a system & Nurse Bouchard etc running out of posn & not attacking the hi danger scorer. Broberg is a key but hard to tell. With a better system & real will on D… would be nice to finally spend the money on having a reliable 2nd line. With RNH scoring 1G and 1A in playoffs & Kane 2G & 2A Playoffs (EvenStrength) – team has just never created a line other than McD-Drais ($21m). Hyman works… but Kane could be a real concern/may go to coasting mode w yrs on his contract…. & RNH often a weak scorer (PP w great linemates hides his ES ability?).. 17G 29A ES was ok RegSeas but not as great as advertised. so a Scorer would sure be great !!! Like Bjug Ryan Koskin.
Unless Campbell turns into Hasek next year, they can add or subtract whatever, and the result will be the same. Get some Vet solid D while they're at it.
Why no-trade for Nurse? Because he a buddy of McD or sport writers were told not to write about trading Nurse because Oilers made a huge mistake signing him to 8×9.25m contract.
Nurse has to go to make room for Broberg and free up cap space. He is a 3-4 D with an elite salary.
Although of course early, but Matvey Petrov, who was taken 180th overall in the
6th round in 2021, has proven so far to be a great pick. Time will tell how good.

Before we sharpen our knives and pitchforks its critical that we all as Fans learn to place accountability where it belongs so we stop roasting players for all the wrong reasons. The SYSTEM and the Coach/s who are tasked with operating said SYSTEM are the 2 most critical parts of the entire Machine and are in fact the most and first accountable for end results on every level. With great power comes great Accountability. The Knights simply exploited these 2 critical aspects of the Oilers Team like the Aves did last year and executed a simple gameplan based upon exploiting the System and inept Coach who they knew could not adjust in a timely manner. I say that the Oilers simply needed more hired eyes on the Prize upstairs who would have pinpointed the Slot-aughter that was coming BEFORE IT HAPPENED basically helping Woodcraft learn how to adjust the System during Playoff hockey.
Bouchard…"run the powerplay" hahahahaha…if that's the case, I could "run the powerplay". This narrative that Bouchard is a "great hockey player" is wild…like…I like him, and like most fans, I want him to succeed…but he is far from a great hockey player at this point. The fact that he is going to get even a bridge deal that starts with a 3 or 4 is asinine.
Draisaitl, Hyman, Hopkins, Kane, Yamamoto, Nurse, Ekholm. I would trade Draisaitl for Alex DeBrincat in a heartbeat especially if you can sign Alex DeBrincat for 8.5 million.
