Lassi Alanen on Twitter: Marco Kasper’s (DET) progress in the SHL from his DY to his D+1. Improved his play in transition, became a lot better at bringing pucks to the middle, killed more plays defensively while also making significant strides as a playmaker. #LGRW

  1. I really want him on the opening night roster but man him as 1C with 1st unit PP/PK time in GR makes so much more sense

Unless he’s in another level I don’t see how he steals 3C from either Copp or Compher, he’d have to be a middle 6 winger which is still an up hill battle given Ras, Perron, Berggren, Fabbri, Kostin and Sprong have all shown they can play and contribute at the NHL level….

He’s close to being a regular in Detroit but he has to be so dominant in the preseason that even Lalondes wife has to say he belongs in the NHL

  2. Forgetnk1

My favourite aspect of his development was his willingness to try high-skill plays while still maintaining his responsible and gritty game. But he still needs to work on the overall execution of those plays. I’m still skeptical that he’ll stick at center over wing, but his ceiling feels a lot higher than it did on draft day which is amazing.

  3. Kasper have joined Rögles one ice training to prepare for the upcoming season 🙂

I translated todays local article with comments from Marco on Rögle and Detroit:

“After the injury, now Kaspers big NHL challenge awaits. He injured himself last season in the 1st period of his NHL debut, now practicing with Rögle are preparing him to be ready for the NHL.

Marco Kasper is one of many NHL players that has practiced with Rögle this week. ”

“Fun to be back, I have been in both USA and Austra during the summmer. I think it helps me to be here, the tempo is really good and its fun to meet my teammates. I asked the coach already after last season if it was OK if I showed up”

It will be the first complete season in North America for Kasper, the fan favorite who made his senior breakthrough last season with Rögle.

“Rögle gave me the chance and has meant alot to me, not only on the ice but outside the rink I became independent by living alone and learning the languae, so I am really grateful.

After Rögles playoff ended Kasper went over to Detroit but there his season abruptly ended after being injured in his NHL-debut.

“I was injured in the first period, but still finished the game, then I also missed the IIHF World Championship, it was tough, but at the same time it was exciting to joing the Red Wings a road trip and see how everything works in the NHL.

Kasper is now going back to Austria before leaving for Detroit by the end of the month to fight for an NHL roster spot.

“It will require lots of hard work, but thats what I have been preparing for during summer, everything is quicker in the NHL and I think that kind of hockey will suit me well. I have to be tough and fight for everything.

The relationship with Rögle will remain despite embarking on a new journey

“I hope that I have many years in the NHL, but Rögle will always be close to my heart”.

  4. Excellent news. Watching his Wings debut made it look like he was an NHL veteran. He played very well, and on a bum knee!

Him healthy with all our young core guys around…just holy shit 😁

He’s turned into a more defensive center. I mean, it’s great that there’s improvement, but we need scoring.
