These guys are realistic, and don’t just cheer every move the Wings make. In a bubble the Petry trade makes us better, and was a good trade for Steve to make, but it just adds another expendable defenseman to our roster. Anything is better than a bottom pairing of Lindstrom and Haeg though.
Also liked it when they said they would have Chiriot in the press box.
Quote that stuck out to me, they have one good defensive pairing and 5 expendable NHLers.
Another good take is if more than a few of our prospects don’t pan out were screwed.

I just finished this episode myself. Those guys are as good as it gets. I can’t wait to follow them through a playoff experience, hopefully this year!
I like them too for many of the same reasons.
I’ve tried to get into that pod a couple times now and it never works out for me. I think its because all their voices sound to similar *(well the two guys who speak regularly that is, the third guy always seemed like a passenger to me).*
They seem to be more on the pessimistic side of the wings to me too rather than realistic but to each their own!
They have good takes sometimes, and bad takes other times. Overall a solid listen.
Sure the boys are great
Alway listen to them coming home from my late shift and to get breakfast, they’ve been amazing to me in helping understand much better a sport that loved since I was kid, but never really understood in fine detail as well as being great to helping understand other teams, the league, and hockey elsewhere. Between them and MeatEater, I’ll always find a time or excuse for
I like them too. All great guys but I’d get into a heated hockey debate with Brad probably lol.
I’ve never had the chance to listen to them. It makes me a bit suspicious as they are endorsed by the Red Wings. So how much are they mouthpieces for the organization versus independent podcasters?

Here’s a list of how many defenseman each team used last season. Having depth isn’t a bad thing

I don’t have many people around me that pay attention to the Red Wings and hockey in general, so I really look forward to the WWP episodes every week. Went to their live event at LCA last season against Pittsburgh and had a lot of fun. They all have their roles on the pod that they play well, and I appreciate Evan’s under the radar nerd interests, dropping references to LotR and Diablo II. The fact that they’ve grown to be affiliated with the Wings is impressive. Eagerly awaiting some playoff episodes and events, keep it up boys.
Winged wheel > Hockey Writers Grind line > Locked on Red Wings > Grind Line
Wow that is deeply humbling and super appreciated. Thank you so much!
These dudes are hacks. They apologized for Zadina to the point of absurdity, ridiculed fans who didn’t agree with them, then glossed over the fact that they did so when it was finally clear that he sucked. If they had a shred of intellectual honesty they’d have made an effort to identify WHY they got it wrong with him. They did the same thing with Hronek and Rasmussen. They make these declarations about players, get them totally wrong, and then move on to the next.
Nice try, Evan.
(It’s also my go-to hockey show)
More of a Grind Liner myself.
I listen to every episode. love those guys.
I outscooped the hell out of them when it came to Vrana.
Evan couldn’t even find a shako in d2 if his life depended on it
can i say I do not care for the grind line’s twitter presence.
I agree. I for one am supportive of the Yzerplan, mostly because critics can’t actually say what they would do different. These guys however set forth tangible critiques. They said there is only one big potential critique, and it is whether they should have kept Dylan Larkin. The argument could have been made to just tank tank tank, and sell off Larkin trying to improve lottery odds. While I would not do this, at least it’s a tangible critique
100% agree. I liked that they brought out the risks of the prospects as well and that if these guys don’t hit, we don’t have a foundation to which I can agree and can attest to why Yzerman isn’t rushing these guys to the NHL and wants to build a winning culture in Grand Rapids before he brings those players to the NHL. We can afford a 3 year window on our D core and a 5 year contract with Compher because all that’s saying is that’s the window he’s giving someone like Danielson or the 4 year contract that Copp has for someone like Kasper to develop properly. Same rotation applies with Edvidson with the Gostisbhere contract. Yzerman is betting on the time it should take certain players to develop and if they exceed expectations, you have guys like Sprong or Perrons contract that can be shipped.
They brought it out best by saying that the contract structure is sitting pretty well because most of these players are expendable.
