Goalie here. Le me tell you somthing. The hardest part of playing goalie (in my opinion) is keeping your head up and not ducking. However I will say this, I've taken pucks off the head and it feels good when you make an unorthodox save.

yes goalies didn’t wear masks back in the day but they also weren’t going up against 100+ mph clap bombs… still dangerous though
The level of goalie discipline to put your head IN the way, instead of instinctively ducking… is simply amazing!

Back when goalies didn’t wear masks the shots weren’t 103 mph, and it was not often you would see a puck elevate to the height of the goalies face, given that sticks weren’t curved
I mean in that time guys didnt have curve blades and sticks that could flex
Back in the day they def didn’t shoot it like ovechkin but yeah I still don’t why they didn’t wear some kind of mask lol

They know the hardest shot was(last checked) 108mph done during the skills competition,but it's been said by MANY players the shots that are generated from plays and one-timers like this EASILY are going 115-120mph. Something about the redirecting of the force of the pass into the shot coming in at the exact right time…Idk they just said it usually was harder
