  1. I don't blame JK for wanting to add toughness, but I think that he jumped to quickly for Gudbranson. I don't think there were a lot of teams that were looking to sign Gudbranson. So, JK should have waited till further into free agency to get Gudbranson on the cheap. Plus, you don't want your D men fighting. That's for guys like Shelly, or Olivier. Hopefully Babcock can find a roll for Gudbranson that helps him succeed to his best possible ability.

  2. I think Gudbranson is a solid defenseman & he provides a veteran presence that we desperately need. Next year when he’s on the 3rd line with some weaker matchups I think he will play a little better. Currently his cap hit is about 5% of the league salary cap & with the cap going up the next few years that percentage will go down of course. He is essentially a placeholder until our defensive prospects are ready and I think he is serviceable for that. The truth is defensive prospects take a little bit longer than forwards; it’s conservative predicting that Jiricek, Svozil, Mateychuk & Culemans will take 2 or 3 years minimum to have a large impact at the NHL level. Keep up the great off-season content!

  3. Gudbranson was great in calgary the year before. thats why he got 4mil. the only thing that changed was his choice to play on a lousy team. Him playing in columbus was the sole reason that Gaudreau signed there. He will be better because the team will be better. Babcock system will be a big part of that and you will also see better goaltending as well. Clb will be a great team in 3 years. by then he can be bought out if needed.

  4. Pretending Columbus didnt need to add toughness is crazy. It was a young team that got pushed around and noone would stand up for each other. Domi would fight but only when the opponent has his back turned.

You dont have to like Gudbranson because hes overpaid and pretty meh but Larsen sucked at using players to their strengths and hiding their weaknesses. He looked better when they finally let him dump pucks out.
