’24 Player Previews: Lucas Raymond, Michael Rasmussen & Olli Maatta

Lucas Raymond had a down year in 2022. Can he bounce back in 2023 and reach his full potential? Michael Rasmussen cemented himself as part of the Red Wings core last season before being sidelined with an injury. Can he replicate and even build off of that success? Olli Maatta started off strong with Detroit last year before having a rough finish. In a more competive locker room, can he stay in the lineup? #lgrw

  1. love to see him on second line with 2nd line pressure. i'm at 70 pts..30/40, let's be honest, he was on 1st line out of necessity, he will grow into a top 1st line guy . give him a second to grow into it

  2. Not like it matters but my magic line is line 2 , Copp with berrgers and Raymond, future Bad Ass 1st line

  3. Raymond and Berggren remind me of Nyquist and Tatar (Tatar having abit more toughness). I wouldn’t mind seeing one of them traded for a Bertuzzi type. Especially with Debrincat. On the team.

Edit: tough skill is lacking with those three, need better balance. Soft skill laden teams do not win in the playoffs. don’t have to be tall, but have to be strong and hard nosed with an edge.

  4. I think Big Ras should be on the wing in the top six. He could possibly be a able to reach 60 to 75 points. He is super underrated. It's not a coincidence the team took a shit after he went down jus saying LFGRFW🤘🏻😉

  5. The big question is who slots in best with Larkin and Cat. Ideally you want a legit power forward with those guys. Right? There’s no clear cut answer on the roster right now.

If Rasmussen is a hot commodity and Larkin asks for Ras to be on his line, then Ras is gonna be on the top line. If Ras can hack it, he’s the ideal balance for Larkin and Cat.

  6. Lucas said he was at 186 in the video the Wings just dropped this morning, about Lucas & Mo's Lions training camp experience.

  7. Maatta's drop in play probably coinsides with him having mono. He'll be back to doing what he did in the first half of last season.

  8. Maatta didn't fall apart in March, the whole team did. It wasn't the same team after the trade deadline.

He's still going to be reliable and Lalonde knows him, no reason to bump him down yet. He and Chiarot are a good 2nd pair, Gostisbehere will get plenty of ice time when the plays on the top PP unit.

  9. The more I think about it, the more a Perron-Larkin-Cat 1st line and a Ras-Copp-Raymond 2nd line makes sense. Perron is no power forward but he certainly holds his ground and can produce. Definitely less of a defensive liability than Raymond.

Ras and Copp had a great chemistry going last year as well.

Not sure if there will be anyone with grit in FA to replace Perron next year (or Kostin rises?) but if Ras can hold it down we’ll be in a great spot.

  10. I think a cool episode idea for when you need one is for Scotty and Brian to do a draft of current and former Red Wings to see who can create the better All-Red Wing team. Make it like a 2 team draft though, so like if Brian picked Lidstrom first overall, Scotty couldn't pick Lidstrom for his team. 13 forwards, 7 d-men, 3 goalies.
