OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the goaltending situation in Montreal, as they are about to head into this season with not one, not two, but THREE! NHL goaltenders.. Will one of them be traded away before the season begins? I think Casey DeSmith is the odd guy out. And in today’s video I’ll explain why it makes more sense to trade DeSmith, than the others!

Hopefully its Monty & Allen again
I would like to see Hughes send Allen and maybe a 5th or 6th round pick to sweeten the pot, take on 25 to 50% of his salary for this year and try to get a B or C level prospect back. Then you have Desmith to back up Monte, and Primeau in Laval.Then next season you can let Desmith walk, bring up Primeau and see what happens. We know the Habs won't be contenders next year, but with a trade like this it can free up some valuable cap space for next offseason. Just a thought…………………………………………
I would like to see what Jake Allen looks like next year when he actually has a decent team in front of him. The guy rarely makes any mistakes, and as Vegas proved last year, you don't need a star goalie to win cups.
I don't think Allen is that overpriced/hard to trade. He has his injury concerns, but ability wise he was pretty decent, easily responsible for a handful of extra points we got last year. His numbers suck because the entire defense was rookies and injury replacements most of the time IMO.
I wouldn't be too upset at keeping DeSmith. My wife is actually from NH, but more importantly, I heard his dad is a huge Habs fan. Probably not great reasons, but I'm sure Hughes has some plan working on it.

Casey's wife doesn't want to come here so he will be traded … she would be treated like a second class citizen because she doesn't speak French so can you blame her ?
Trade whichever isn't named Montembault, and whichever gets you the best return.
they could package Jake with a B prospect to entice someone to take Allen and the majority of his contract FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS
DeSmith is slightly younger and cheaper, and probably very similar to Allen in ability. But yes you are right Junkie, it is going to be much easier to trade him than it is to trade Allen.
Price is going to make a return.
Carolina and several other teams have 3 good goalies, nothing wrong keeping him. Desmith is there mostly for a back up plan if primeau gets claim after camp and/or case of a injury. Habs can’t afford to play Dobes right away after a college year in the US, it would destroy his confidence like it did with Primeau. Hugues is not showing is card right now imo and Desmith will be at camp fighting to get is game back after a bad year. BTW goalies in montreal don’t have the best record staying healthy lately, just like players, we need replacement pieces.

Casey & Sammy stay. Jake gone and the Habs take half the cap hit. If Casey is ok, then resign and trade Primeau. If not ok, bye bye Casey and run with Sammy and Primeau. Easy as Shepard’s Pie with peas and carrots.
I’ll take DeSmith over Allen for one season for sure. But where does it really get me? Nowhere
