OK Guys, it’s time to talk about Montreal Canadiens freshly acquired defensemen Gustav Lindstrom, and look at the whole depth chart for defensemen in general. The Habs without a doubt will have a 10/10 blueline in the near future, and it’s making some notable players drop out from the system due to the stiff competition.

A couple of things..
1) Its Nicklas Lidstrom, not Niklas Lidstrom, that was a typo.
2) You gotta admit the amount of talented young defensemen the Canadiens have is bananas..

I think he'll get a good long look at the NHL level to start to season. UNLESS, he completely suits the bed in the pre-season.

Savard is the one that needs to go. This guy is a pylon out there.
The amount of depth in D and for goalies makes it nearly impossible that there is no other moves before the season starts.
I want to know how they will compare to other teams. Lindstrom's plus minus is not that good but I don't know how the rest of that group in Detroit played including the goal tender
Hope he works out in the Habs system but don't see him playing top 4 minutes. Maybe he'll get better with age but I think the NHL game is too fast for him.

Habs do have some impressive young D in the system but no NHL pundits ever mention them when discussing young D around the league

Hockey is a tough physical game and wimp coaches don't inspire.
Yes we are over loaded on defense long before we wasted a pick on Reinbacher.Trudeau will be good he has a good IQ and even far down the lsit I even like Mittelstadt we have tons of capable defense.
IMO the biggest problem is St,Louis needs to learn how to coach the players have some skill bit they have no clue how to play in each zone.I never once liked Norlinder imo he has always been a plug I have no idea what scouts saw in him because he had zero skill.
We had a giant steaming pile of MINUSES in our players stats and that wasn't because of goaltending or lack of hustle they just don't have the hockey IQ to read the game or understand how to setup or how to cover and even simple things like finishing checks and following pucks to the net.I like to call many of our forwards drive by players they drive right by their checks and instead of following shots even their own to the net they curve away drive by the rebounds.
Perimeter hockey makes me vomit I can't stand teams looking and waiting for that perfect pass that never comes get pucks to the net and get bodies to the net and shoot the darn puck.
Barron needs to crank it up a notch this season, Harris i hope will take the next step in his development, Guhle is the only one
at this point will be a dam effective NHLer.
this season the Habs have one of the worst D cores in the league.
its gonna be 4-6 years before we see Reinbacher, Hutson, Guhle, possibly Mailloux hitting their peak/prime. Its gonna be a long road. And I think theyll still be missing a much needed Norris caliber Dman that it takes to win the Cup.

I was personally never high on Norlinder. Go ahead. Go through my social media the last few years and see how many times I mentioned him. I'm not even sure I spelled his name right. I didn't wish him to fail or anything. I would have been happy if he become a great defenseman but I just didn't see anything special from him.
That said, I liked the poll. I was sure he'd be a sure bet to make the team out of camp but I guess the grasshoppers have spoken.
You had a great idea to look at what Wings fans had to say about Lindstrom. I didn't even think of that. I heard McCaggs point of view and didn't really question it because I respect his opinion.
I still hope Lindstrom turns out to be a stud at one point in his career because that would be great for the Canadiens and their fans.
I read all those comments on social media from Hawks fans last summer about how lousy Kirby Dach was. I have no problem seeing Lindstrom get a second chance to prove himself this season. St. Louis seems to have a special touch with young players who may have been undervalued by their previous organization.
I hope Lindstrom plays well, but realistically he's not. It's a temp fit for now
