I feel like Darryl Sutter's coaching is a factor….he's too old school and makes the team run suicides instead of practicing situations that matter during the regular season 🙄
They are valuable injury replacements for the first spate of injuries, just like every other year.
Naahhh. When it comes to absolutely embarrassing jokes, look no further than the All-Star dumpster fire. THAT is a joke.
Can’t believe that these guys are still in
Within the first hour here

western canadian teams seem to need to focus on long term contracts and players with more control.
we dont know shit yet. no one's done anything and I'm so confused
Here’s a hottake:
When Mcdavid eliminated the flames in OT in 2022 that will be the last ever playoff game in the saddledome.
I agree, gotta make most of those move now, get rid of anyone that dont wanna resign for the flames while they have value, because if they underperform during the season, which is very likely due to the context, that will severely affect the return.
Maybe keep some of those still on the fence until the deadline, but if they still hesitating at that point chop chop.
The Jets are in the exact same boat for nearly exactly he same reason, im curious which of these teams will correct its trajectory the best next season, both were « contenders » not so long ago …
I think there is a verbal agreement with Backs and Lindholm, depending on how the team is doing by X date, they will/will not re-sign. I think they want to see how "righted" the ship is before they make any decisions, and good for them. I know I'd be hesitant to sign a long-term contract with Calgary right now.
Lol…hypocrisy….your Leafs are in the same boat….this is another example of Toronto trying to give bad advice to another organization…but doing something else themselves. Just be honest who you cheer for….not Calgary
I'm sure he's trying to trade then, but it's really hard not to get fleeced when everyone knows that the player wants to leave
Isles should trade for Lindholm. They’re currently seen as a team that will probably miss the playoffs this year. They need one more big name. Pageau is already rumored to be traded soon. Clutterbuck is old and needs to go. Isles can trade Pageau, Clutter, a 1st, and maybe another pick/prospect for Lindholm. It’ll also clear cap space to sign Parise because right now they don’t have that cap space.
So the bruins are not getting a center?
The Flames should have reset and started a rebuild last summer. They could have have tanked and had a shot at drafting Bedard and started building a contender. Now they are a middling team in a division with true contenders. This is going to end badly, especially with the Kadri and Huberdeau contracts.
LoL that is the plan? If so that leaves so much to chance… But I believe that the longer you wait the LESS you are going to get. People know these guys dont want to come back, its clear as day. The longer Conroy waits the less you are getting back
It's all a crapshoot. GM's look amazing when they pick up a Matthew Tkachuk, and idiots after getting a Huberdeau. You can point to good and bad deals by all GMs over the years (execpt Chiarelli for the Oilers, he really did suck). I find it funny that people thought the Sens were crazy for letting Karlsson go, and then a few years later his contract with San Jose looks like garbage and they have to retain salary and get rid of him. Which GM did the best job here? The Sens for not signing Karlsson to a crazy $11M/8-year contract, the Sharks for finally getting rid of him, or the Pens for picking him up?
As soon as someone expresses they no longer want to be there, you have to start taking action to move them.
Blame the players not management they under achieved. Then we have Tkachuk and Johnny Hockey who left or had to leave "did they really?".There is a very big problem and it is the players the NHLPA and Bettman those 3 entities are about greed selfishness and all of them do not care one bit about the fanbase.
Well once we get near the trade deadline there will be some teams in dire need of help and will be willing to make good deals with CGY.I see the EAST being a real tight race to the playoffs so there will be teams willing to give up first round picks to get them over that hump.
Lol, during the season it’s always teams are going to wait for draft to make a trade, during the off season it turns into the season is when all the trades get made.
Flames biggest problem is determining WHY people won't sign. My theory is that the arena delays have convinced these players that if they sign in Calgary now, they are signing to play in a sub-AHL arena for most of their remaining career. Calgary is paying the price for getting stingy on the arena, as well as going back to Sutter. One was easy to correct. The other will take time.
the Calgary mayor is the main reason these guys dont wanna be there anymore. She literally cancelled Canada day cuz racism.
much adu about nothing , calgary is going nowhere
your freaking out for nothing. either player will yield at least a first round draft pick at the deadline, they are ganna have to retool whether they like it or not.
work case is u trade them at the deadline for draft picks… you end up with a 3 firsts or the equivalent or 3 firsts.
you then use those to either draft this season OR you trade em to a rebuilding team like SJ for someone like a tomas hertl and yours off to the races.
in either case, Calgary has neither the prospects nor the ability to just magically content this season. they have enough pieces to power rebuild here if they wanna. give it like 3 years
If the Flames aren't off to a solid start because of this drama, they need to make the moves, stop waiting for the offers, make the offers. Getting burned this time is career suicide for Conroy and the flames.
Fans are going to start walking away from NHL hockey…We're no longer cheering for anything but a sweater. There's no such thing as a team anymore
BWAHAHAHA on behalf on the alberta oilers I want to thank old man Darryl dementia for causing this dilemma! He sunk the Cowtown lames ship like the titanic, broke his team apart, put Huby dooby scooby doo on the wrong line for most of the year, lost the locker room’s faith and took the lames star players with him when he got sacked. Until your poverty franchise becomes relevant consider cheering for the real alberta team who’s on the cusp of winning a cup!
As much as people complain about Sutter's old-school hockey, I don't think that was the problem. The team had a large personnel change yet they still put up similar expected goals for and almost an idential expected goals against numbers this year as they did the year prior. Those numbers can be fudged but they are closer to the truth the more hockey that's played, and I'm comparing two years' worth of play. The Flames absolutely dominated in possession/shot share stats but were tied for dead last in PDO (5v5 shooting and save percentages) with CBJ – they were trash when it came to execution. Sutter can't coach Markstrom to make the save or Kadri to put the puck in the net. This is on the players and the offensive, defensive, and goalie supports that are in place. Think of it this way: the Flames got 18 more powerplays this year and were still off last year's goal total by 33 goals… that's basically a goal every other game that they didn't get this year.
THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!! You gotta be smokin' something good to think that Conroy is gonna let any of these impending UFA's walk for nothing. They can't all be blockbusters, but I guess we will see what happens. – A Flames fan.
