2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets Season Preview

Jarmo made a couple of big moves early in the summer to fix the blueline and added a new coach who garndered plenty of attention as well. How will this all work out?

  1. Fantilli, Jiricek, Kent Johnson, there's some talent to go along with Gaudreau, Laine, and a healthy Werenski. Provorov and Severson are serviceable as well… but I don't see it coming together this season. Needs more time.

  2. Even if they stay healthy, I think 6th place is their peak this year. The goaltending is still suspect, the team offense isn’t there yet, Babcock was an uninspired and lazy hire, and their top prospects need more time to mature. If they make progress this season, maybe they break through after that.

  3. If the defense shores up some, goaltending won't be such an issue. Werenski coming back will help also.

  4. I think they should be better this season but I still think their is more work to do. The defense and goaltending is still questionable for me. While they have some interesting pieces upfront like Adam Fantilli I still think more work upfront needs to be done. The prospects still need time to develop as well. So while I expect some improvements I don't think it's enough for playoffs.

  5. pure trash. columbus will stay in the bottom 5 of the East for a while. Johnny hockey must be glad.

  6. The Blue Jackets have such a good vibe, really rooting for them to get it together. I could see them having a Buffalo-like late season surge, if not for how packed that division is I think they could pull a Florida.

Even if Babcock sucks, with his track record you just know eyes will be on him. He's no Torts or Sutter. I believe he will be held accountable and won't be able to run rampant over the players.

  7. I think this is going to be the last season for Jarmo. They may be better, but they're nowhere close to being a playoff team.

  8. I think Colombus will be my no 2 team this year as a Wings fan. Love Werenski and excited to see Fantilli. In other sports I would issue a fatwa upon Ohio, but they need some love in hockey.

  9. Korpi having as good a season as he did behind this defence is why I’m very confident in him in Ottawa

  10. Johnny isn't bouncing back, he peaked, he's on the back side now, especially on a team where he is the star to rely on. He should have signed in NJ (obviously I don't know his decision process).

  11. This season is just about figuring out lines and getting more wins. No need to focus on playoffs yet. At this point that depends just as much on the teams skills as it does on other teams having bad luck

  12. For as much as they got screwed in the draft lottery and my concern with the Babcock hire, maybe having Fantilli fall into their lap will be jolt for this franchise.

  13. not too much hope for this year but maybe next year, if we show any progression, we could push for a wild card.

  14. So excited for the Jackets this year. This might just be a huge learning year where they just miss the playoffs. But I will not be shocked if they come out firing all cannons and end up making the playoffs (I am of course biased, but on paper the players have the abilty to become something really good)

  15. Im not sold on Columbus just because so many changes that they all have to gel together i think they will be better but if they take to long to gel they will be sitting outside the playoffs but i hoping they do alot better this year

  16. Werenski is the straw that stirs the Blue Jackets drink, so him being healthy will be bountiful for their offense. Bean is solid too.

Fantilli gives them a swagger, the return of Tex and Chinny can open the playmaking for Kent Johnson,, and Justin Danforth helps that bottom six. I don't see them as a playoff team, and Babs is a borderline outlandish hire, but more viable than the tactically outclassed Brad Larsen, who looked lost all year with his "schemes"

  17. Yeah these past two season have been injury filled and I hope they can be healthier this year.

  18. Mostly selected this video because I never hear about this team besides when you talk about it

  19. Last season was absolutely the perfect storm, especially considering all of the injuries.
Voronkov will make a big splash as will the additions on the d-line.
CBJ finishes 6th in the Metro this year.

  20. They need to roll 3 goalies. Korpisalo was the only solid goalie they had, Merzlikins 87% season just confirms that.

  21. This is the first time ive seen a non-jackets fan give Texier the respect he deserves. Texier scored 20 points in 36 games before leaving due to a family tragedy in the 2021-2022 season. He was our best forward before he left that season. I may be biased as a blue jackets fan but im very optimistic about this season. We wouldve been closer to a playoff spot than 32nd if we stayed healthy last season and couldve made the playoffs if we didnt have a poor defensive scheme which hopefully Babcock can fix. I think the majority of people who are counting the jackets out just havent done their research because we have a ton of talent on this team just in the form of 19-25 year olds who are still progressing (plus Johnny and Werenski)

  22. Jackets need to trade boquivst, bemstrom, and foudy for an actual center. Maybe calgary would look at that plus adding some other assests for lindholm. Options are slim, but they should be able to make something work.
