What a surpise, the arbitration process splits it down the middle.
Samsonov's deal puts the Leafs even more over the Cap, who goes to make room, are they going to sneak guys on LTIR?
karlsson doesn't fit what the kraken are doing at all, and they have under 1 million in cap space so not sure why people think they have room for him now that dunn is signed
Of course that goalie got ripped off in arbitration when the makemelaughs get special privileges. 😂
Can someone explain to me why the bruins recently signed 3 players none of who are going to be playing in the nhl when sway and frederic arent signed yet? like that used up 2 million in cap space that couldve gone towards signing them. unless i'm missing something here? whats the logic behind this
Arbitration always leading to roughly somewhere in the middle only encourages GM to absolutely low ball players. Guy wants 10!? Don't offer 6. Give him 800k. Hearing will "Arbitrarily" pick the middle after all.
Seattle does make sense. They're not fully young, but they're not old either. Great mix of veterans and young talent.
Especially with them making it to round 2 last year, a guy like Karlsson would help them in going further.
Plus they've been smart with how they've managed their cap.
I don't see how the Leafs, Pens or Canes can go for Karlsson, such a big contract, not to mention you've gotta trade for the guy and he's a huge injury risk.
Out of those four I hope Karlsson goes to Carolina, even though they don't play too well together with Burns. That is, if he wants to have a good shot at winning the Stanley Cup.
And does this make Samsonov a UFA at the end of this 1 year contract?
Detroit has cap space, and Yzerman likely has in the least has looked…I wouldn't be shocked if Karlsson ended up with Detroit for a year. He and Steve are good friends
Samsonov should be happy with what he got, whether he remains a leaf or not is te big question, so far the leafs have been lucky to get real good goaltending lately from all their pickups over the past few years before moving them on elsewhere, only to see them falter on other teams. So hopefully Samsanov manages to stay where he is.
Karlsson, will likely end up with either Seattle, or Carolina. While Pittsburgh may be a possibility, they have little to bargain with (IMO), considering, they have loads of old vets, that are nearing the end of their careers, and are not likely to give up what few young prospects they have. Carolina has a lot of good young players so a deal is more likely, add to that, they are getting closer to that cup run. So this is a very attractive trade option to Karlsson, for a chance at the cup. Seattle, only makes sense from a cap standpoint, it is likely a few years yet before they can make a proper run for the cup. IMO
Love that retro Hawk's sweater with the old school crest! Where can i get one?
Um unless Seattle is trading them Vince dunn they have >$1 million and all of their big contracts have NMC/NTC that in high likelihood includes the sharks
Your cat 😄
I’ve been saying I want to see Karlsson in Seattle (even tho I’m a LAK fan and it would suck for us) because he would be perfect as the number 1, surrounded by great DFD like Olekiak and Larsson, with Dunn as well, and how deep they are at forward, the sky could be the limit for that roster with a healthy EK
Seattle's cap room is only a million, I think with Dunn locked down EK65 is now out of the picture
Seattle doesn’t have the cap space after the Dunn contract. They’d probably need San Jose to take the full Driedger contract and retain 50% to make the cap work. I can’t see Seattle trading the necessary draft assets to make that work. Especially with their blue line coming together quite nicely. If Seattle is going to trade for a Blue Liner I’d rather get Hanafin as well.
What was Kurashev asking for vs. Chicago asking price? Just wondering.
How does Boston shed hall, foligno, bertuzzi, krejci, Bergeron….ect ect.. and still have cap issues ?
I have no clue what the arbitrator was taking into account for Kurashev 😂 but hawks have more than enough cap space so I guess it's ok.
I could be wrong but I don’t think the 2nd buyout window gets activated unless it got heard at arbitration. Both sides knew they’re offers were unreasonable and could have easily come to an agreement in the $3-$4M range for 2-3 years. I have a strong feeling thatt the Leafs and Samsonovs camp had an understanding to allow the arb to go ahead and they would try to make him whole next season when the cap goes up
How tf are the leafs supposed to clear 9 mil in cap space before the end of the year? Also, oh boy. Matthews, Nylander, Burtuzzi, Domi and Samsonov all expiring next off season. Have fun with that.
I really only see the Kraken getting EK since they have the space and assets to send back in a deal. I don’t think the Leafs want that contract even at 40% retained, the canes just got Tony back and Pit just I don’t think has enough assets to give SJ for EK. And for Pit to make that deal happen a few players with some term are coming back. Just don’t think SJ wants that.
So Toronto is 12 million over the cap?
