He is not a "rat", he has a fire in his belly to win that most players can't comprehend. It's what makes him a great player, but it also drives him over the line sometimes. It's the same affliction John McEnroe exhibited years ago.
He's a natural hockey guy, makes sure the fans and kids love him but if your facing him on the ice hes gunna make sure you hate him. love it
I've always said this about Marchand, I hate that he doesn't play for my team. If he played in Dallas he would absolutely be my favorite player. He's a rat, scores goals and is great with the fans. What more could you want from him?

He's always been a class act. He knows his role on the ice, and you hate him unless he's on your team. But that what makes him great. His team mates all love him. I must say that most hockey players, with few exceptions are classy guys. He's beloved in Boston, and always will be.
Marchand plays the game. Great players are completely different on and off the ice. Guys like Marchand, and Wilson for example… everyone hates them outside of their respective organizations, but they have roles to play for 60 minutes a night.

Marchand has always been about the fans and kids are a huge part of that base. He goes out of his way every single game (home and away) to recognize kids and make them feel special for "their" moment. He loves the fans without exception.
