Everyone seems to forget that John Tavares took less to come to Toronto. He was going to get a couple million more to go elsewhere, so this thought of his $11 million contract weighing this team down is just crazy. We all praised his 7 year deal when he signed it and doubt anyone was complaining about the dollar value when it was signed. And Jay is wrong, people everywhere are underpaid for the work they do, so to ask AM to do the same isnt a stretch. AM certainly isnt worth 15.8% of the cap IMO

4 year is pretty good, i wouldnt want an 8 year, injuries happen and if he dips your stuck eatinf that money. The cap will have gone up a fair amount by then and mcdavid will be paid more than that for sure. We get matthews all throughout his prime And if toronto cant get it done in 4 years then their just not going to do it period in the matthews era.

Okay, so Matthews signs for 8 years at $15.5 and then Alberga is goona be bitching about how Matthews took too much money and how are they gonna build around the core four. Toronto punidts are the most fucking annoying people (Rosie excluded) people are the planet. Matthews signing this GAURANTEES Marner will not get a penny close to that. Matthews just SAVED the Leafs with this deal.

Do you think Willy would agree to take less on the 1st year of an extension and then make up the difference on the remaining years of the new deal that he would sign? Then Tavares deal would be up then if the LEAFS still wanted JT they could sign him for significantly less or just move on

Morgan Rielly signed at a reasonable price for full term. He gave his left lung helping the team get to the second round. He's the captain, not his highness Matthews. Let's face it, Dubas was gifted a situation where he couldn't fail, yet he did. Treliving was up against it with Matthews, Nylander and soon to be Marner. It's fine, though, the purpose of the Leafs is to ensure some talent is set for life, not to win a cup. Anyway, good for Matthews, he consented to come back. Now all the fan girls can have someone too root for.
