There’s no top 6 forward in the prospect pool, we can’t be top 5.

  2. Gooseface12

This would mostly be driven by the cutoff for who is and isn’t a “prospect”. It excludes young players like Slafkovsky, Guhle, Caufield, Dach, Newhook and Suzuki since they’re NHL players.

  3. Usually it’s your responsibility to post why. Copying an image from instagram is meaningless

  4. JamJam130

I would say CHI, CBJ and ANA are ahead of us

After that, we’re in the mix with SJS, PHI, DET and BUF (and NJD?)

  5. G_skins31

Top 5? Looks like a lot of bottom 6 forwards and middle pairing defense men. I think top 9 is very generous

  6. RyanWalts

I’m totally good with this actually, since it excludes most of the Habs top young forward talent. Without them it’s very fair imo, buoyed by the strong defense but sunk by a lack of high-end forwards.

  7. Zealousideal_Cake943

Reinbacher is our best prospect and even LH said he is a #2.
We have no Franchise player. So no we aint top 5 at all

  8. Thaddeauz

We only have two big names on our prospect pool. Reinbacher and Hutson.

Chicago have Bebard which alone is enough, but they also have Reichel and Korchinski.

Buffalo have Levi, Savoie, Kulich and Benson.

Minnesota have Wallstedt, Rossi and Yurov

Anaheim have Carlsson, Mintyukov and Zellweger

Detroit have Sandi Pellikka, Edvinsson, Kasper and Danielson

Colombus have Fantilli, Jiricek and Mateychuk

San Jose have Smith, Eklund and Bordeleau.

I can’t see us in the top 5, but that’s mostly irrelevant. If Slafkovsky would still count as a prospect we might be flirting with the top 5 and I think our ranking have more to do with how many prospect played in the NHL last season than anything else.

No legit top line forward in the pipeline. Defensive prospects are deep as hell but only Roy and Beck project to be top 6 forwards and they’re both likely capped as 2nd line guys. Farrell is more middle 6 as is Kidney and Mysak’s stock took a huge hit last year as did Filip Mesar.

  10. Using those prospects it makes sense, maybe 3 of them make the NHL as regular players and no one is guaranteed to be top line players

We desperately need to get some high end prospects

  11. Educational_Hat_

More like bottom 5. Beside Reinbacher, Hutson and Roy, we have a lot of nothing. And even those 3 guys could be nothing but bottom pair players. But hey, we love to think every single one of our prospects are gonna be 1st line players and our D prospects will win the Norris year after year.

You guys never learn. It’s like you’re all new fans or something.

  12. Well 9th may be fair I’m not really sure but I will say those prospect rankings within our own org is a bit fucked. Engstrom isn’t even on the list and I take him 100% before Mesar in a redraft right now who they have 3rd. Why is Barron on here but not Guhle? Neither should be on here TBH

  13. thebeggening

I’d put Mailloux higher. If all 3 D pan out then we are golden. Trading for forwards is easier

  14. bcgrappler

Slipping from 4th to 9th is basically the result of trading for dach and newhook.

We would have had 2 firsts a high second a third and a 4th.

Trading those 5 picks for a top 6 and a potential top 6 that fit with our 2 already established top 6 forwards is very solid work.

Now we slip slightly in prospects but add some older more established guys and still have 21 picks in the next 2 drafts.

I think we need to get a legit high end talent up front in the next 2 drafts but I like where we are today.

  15. canadiatv

7 prospects that are rated higher than Barron which played a bunch of nhl games and didn’t look bad during those games… Yet these 7 guys in front of him are higher on the list?! Barron showed fast improvement and can still improve a lot. To see him 8th on this list of players who never played the nhl is a huge joke.

  16. Sad and sucks to say two years of tanking and not able to land a franchise player. I think we have a decent pool of NHL prospects mostly on D which is good. Forwards I think Farrell has the highest ceiling but he could also be a complete miss if he can’t adjust to the size of the NHL but has the skill set to be 2nd or 1st line. The rest are 3rd or 4th liners and maybe 2nd if they over achieve.

  17. Valowzz

I would not have Mesar at 3 personally, he’s been so meh over the last year.

  18. NHL scouting had the Habs prospect pool at #2

  19. MarkovianParallax79

If Mesar is really our 3rd best prospect we are in for a very long rebuild. My hopes for him are very low.

  20. DirtyCentaur

Anyone that posts a ranking that isn’t putting Hutson as our #1 prospect does not watch our prospects enough to formulate an opinion imo.

  21. Geoffers84

Without Slaf, Guhle, Caufield. I got no problem with our ranking.

  22. hockeynoticehockey

Since I have no clue whatsoever who 98% of the players from other teams even are, it is an insult to Canadiens fans anywhere to see us ranked 9th, and we should not stand for it.

  23. Not many bluechip forwards there.

Beck is the only sure thing at forward and that’s as an above-average 2-way C.

    Roy, Mesar, Farrell are projects.

Our #10 guy is a forward who had zero impact in his AHL rookie season. I’d put Simoneau above him. Arguably above Kidney too.

Add Slaf and whoever we’d have drafted with the picks used in the Newhook gamble and we’d be a bit higher. As it stands now, #9 is generous.

  24. private_liberty

Jan Mysak #10? He is not even top 25 lol
