A fun read—the newspaper right before the Wings drafted Stevie Y and turned the franchise around.

What I loved about this article is that they put eleven years(!) of picks from the Islanders against the picks of the Wings. The Isles at the time were, of course, the class of the NHL. It’s easy to see what a terrible job the Wings did in the 70s and why they had such a dry spell. Anyone with any talent was usually traded away.

I remembered when Yzerman was picked no one even knew how to pronounce his name.

This is awesome! Interesting to think where we’d be had we taken Sylvain Turgeon

Jimmy D sounds a whole lot Stevie Y regarding keeping draft picks!

What happened with John Hllworth? “Never recovered from Wilson punch”

Lots of “Never made it,” except for one “total washout.” Ouch!
