Remember Umpire Dickie Bird and Dennis Lillee 'I'll have a look at the end of the over' which resulted in Dennis bowling off spin the rest of the over with a completely out of shape ball., before the umpires changed the ball at the end of the over. Would be very difficult to play to the end of the over with that bat! Umpires don't tend to require it anymore.
Professionals tend to prefer wood with more grains for their bats because, although they don’t last as long, they sometimes give better ping. The problem there is that the more grainy wood comes from the top of the tree. And the top of the tree is more susceptible to wind damage. That’s what this is – wind damage. Nothing to do with the quality of manufacture, and it’s not something that makers can pick up during inspection. Just bad luck, and quite rare, thankfully.
It happens , very rare , after all it is a piece of wood it will have cracks and will chip off one day , doesn't matter if they are quality English ,or Kashmir willow .
