Brad Treliving and Auston Matthews spoke for the first time since signing the new contract extension.     I was saying trade Nylander when he sat out the Fall of 2018. They could have got either Slavin or Pesce from Carolina. Either of those guys are better than Anyone the Leafs have now. Nylander performs the best in the Playoffs because he’s Not on the Line that gets all the attention.

    Depends what Defenseman they can get back in return for the trade, but yeah Nylander gonna drag it out like the first time into the regular season

    I would recommend to the Leafs they do NOT trade Nylander. One reason Vegas won the cup was their excellent depth of scoring. They had a 10 goal scorer on each of their top 3 lines. I'm of the opinion Nylander should be resigned for $10M at whatever term can be worked out. Toronto really needs the goal scoring and all-around talent he provides.

    To begin with, I am no fan of Matthews. Granted, he is an exceptional talent and says all the right things when being interviewed. But in my opinion, and I certainly can't read his mind, his priority is to milk as much money as he can out of the Leafs. I'm guessing he's already thinking of (at least) a $15M at 6 or so years extension when he's 30. That likely would make him the NHL's first $200M player. I do not put him in the same category as Yzerman and Crosby but do believe the Leafs will eventually win the cup with a roster built around him.

    Nylander is right – he has more chance of winning by leaving the Leafs. Also, Nylander is better off not negotiating in the media and maybe Leafs are now recognizing that 2 smallish wingers in the Core 4 fail in the playoffs just leads to these playoff disappointments. So they trade Nylander soon?

    Other teams see Matthews declining in overall play compared to the elite NHL top 5 players – so that made just staying in Toronto – Matthews’ option that turned out to be his only decision.

    My guess is this season the Leafs trade Nylander to acquire a D – man.

    So he is supposed to take whatever they want him to take to get this done its called a negotiation Mathews number was a given Nylander has to fight for his worth its not close to the same negotiation

    Leafs would do well to also pick up Jesse Puljujarvi on a cheap 1 year prove it contract. He might just strive with the right combination. What have they got to lose?
