Respect or Roast: The Messier era colour scheme is the worst in Canucks history.

And one of the worst motifs in league history.

I feel like this is a loaded question by asking it in the context of fuck messier

  2. Give-Me-The-Bat

Why call it the Messier era. Why not the West Coast Express era, like any true Canucks fan would?

Definitely the least best in Canucks history.

Strike 1: blue on navy with the Orca Bay logo and lower jersey/sleeves. Complimentary colour foul.

Strike 2: blue/green/white > navy/maroon/silver. Dull colour indicative of the boring “same but slightly darker” era of NHL jersey design from the clutch and grab years.

Strike 3: on an emotional connection, Canucks never reached the finals with this colour scheme.

Sir, this is the Naslund era colour scheme. Gtfo with that Messier junk. I would love it if they went back to this colourway.

No. Flying V’s were MUCH MUCH worse.

Fuck you messier go sell lays off that bald head you greasy bastard!

That’s the west coast express jersey fym

  8. It’s one of my favourites. The West Coast Express era

First of all it’s the West Coast Express Era or the Markus Naslund Era.

Secondly it’s a great design. The orca is iconic. The best logo design in Canucks history. The stick and rink is fine but plain, the V is simple and honestly jarring, the skate while cool is too busy.

And lastly the colours go together and fit right in in that era of hockey. A little more muted but to fit the general league design but still identifiably Canucks. Not like watching a Leafs vs Lightning game today where you can’t tell who’s who by the colour scheme.

Canucks black and yellow jerseys were pretty bad too. I dig the blue/green – good combo and reps the province.

I love this colour scheme, saw a mock up of it with adidas jerseys and they looked really slick.

[here, you can use mine. A more fan-friendly Canuck](https://i.imgur.com/QKqGckr.jpg)

Agreed. The color scheme, from what I remembered at the time, reflected its era. That’s it. Also, fuck Messier.

  13. Buffalorocks1

That whole era was an issue the jerseys were the least their problems

  14. Did you want to burn our eyeballs out with that first picture?

  15. TheRealTollah

That is the WCE era jersey. This Mark person has no era in this town.

  16. snakejakemonkey

    Worn from 97 to 07

    Messier era haha

For me being that I was 7 to 17 when they wore them this is the Canucks classic jersey to me and always will be

Roast the take, respect the jersey. Nazzy, Luongo, Young Sedins, Retirement Linden, this grew. This was the WCE era and I get the corporate orca issue, but it’s not V-horrible.

Said it before, Messier and Keenan aren’t an era. Keenan lasted 1.5 seasons, barely more than Torts, Mess just a bit longer. Do we call it a Torts era?

Fuck Messier/Keenan is overrated. Fuck Benning/Aquaman is where it’s at.

For my money the worst colour scheme was the first skate colour scheme, with orange instead of red.

I think younger fans often don’t understand the context of why older fans hate that design. It’s not so much that its aesthetically bad, it’s the surrounding situation:

-The team went to two cup finals in the old design

-The design was supposed to mirror Orca Bay, which was run my John McCaw. McCaw did not care about this community and sold the Grizz knowing they would be relocated. He used our team’s logo to market his own brand

-it coincided with Linden leaving and Messier arriving

The Naslund/WCE era kinda salvaged the jerseys
