[Travis Yost] In the non-McDavid category, it’s hard to find a more impactful skater than Auston Matthews. E-l-i-t-e. But fair or not, his next deal will be measured on playoff success.

  1. It is completely fair to measure a superstar’s deal on playoff success.

21 skaters got more points then Austin
13 skaters scored more goals then Austin
…I have as much faith in management now as I did before this offseason. Because it’s not management that are the problem. Its people from bell and Rogers mixed into this organization and it does ____ all for anyone except make divides behind the scenes and petty politics between professionals

  3. McKinnon.

McKinnon is more impactful, especially in the playoffs.

And just signed for less, and longer.

Edit: you are delusional if you’re downvoting this.

  4. Fair to say he’s on the same level as MacKinnon who just signed an 8 year deal.

After being the #1 shot blocker in the league last year, we may be getting AM’s best years in this contract.

He wants to win, he just needs more of a veteran presense to guide him and grittier support.

I don’t want to see any of the star players get lamb basted anymore without retribution.

I’m almost scared to ask this given the most heavily downvoted comments on this thread, but are people actually saying that given a choice between Matthews or MacKinnon, with their current contracts, most of you would actually take Matthews?

Genuinely asking, I thought the answer was a no brainer but maybe I’m the crazy one.

Regular season play, players are playing at 80% or just above. This is just my opinion. Then at payoff time players move their game to 100%. If they played at 100% during the regular season, two things would happen. 1, players would burn out! 2, Mitch Marner and the rest of top players would not be scoring the way they do during 82 regular season games.
    Remember, my opinion!
A hot goalie, plus a team finding their stride during playoffs is definitely a big reason teams get knocked out of a playoff series…
